Being Sick Sucks

I haven't been this ill since November 2006. I have the flu. I still have it, but it's now in the end stage of illness. I caught it from Joey, but it wasn't his fault. He caught it Monday afternoon at school. I was at his house Monday evening spending time with his mother. He was busy with his cousin Andy and his uncle. We didn't really socialize that night, but we must have socialized enough for me to catch the flu. By the time I came home that night, I had to crawl under 2 blankets to feel warm enough to sleep. That when I knew I was sick, too.

I spent most of the week in bed. I just told Nicki to use my car for the week. I stayed home and slept. Well, Tuesday and Thursday, I was awake parts of the day to use my laptop and to watch TV. Not Wednesday. I slept that most of that day away. I had to. It was my body's way of trying to fight off the infection. But it wasn't like I was comfortable. I kept waking up because I was either too hot or too cold. And when I got hot, I was hot. I know yesterday, when I awoke, my body was drenched with sweat. There was no in-between with my body temperature. In addition to all the sleeping and fever conditions, this flu also came with chest congestion. That made check-up calls between Joey and myself real interesting. We kept seeing how the other was doing with the flu. This is the first time since I was in 1st grade that I shared an illness with a friend.

Yesterday, I was still sick, but I finally got out of the house to take my sister to work. I was going to have lunch with Joey, but he looked at me and decided we were just going back to his place. He could see I was still ill. So, we went back to his place and each took a couch as our own. We just crawled under a blanket, laid down, and watched Dogma. The laughter and comradere of being with a sick friend did me some good. I felt better, somewhat, after I left Joey's place later that night.

Ick

*Huh?* I feel like crap at the moment. I have spent most of my day in bed. My chest hurts. My lungs feel dry. I feel like I have a frog in my throat. And before going to bed last night, I needed 2 blankets on me to feel warm. I fear I may have the Savannah Crud.

The question now is where did I get this? Because not only am I feeling poorly, Joey is, too. He came home from school yesterday feeling like crap. I was at his house working on the template for his mother's site. I didn't really spend too much time with him yesterday because he felt like crap and just wanted some rest. I ended up spending time with his mother and having dinner with her. I hope she doesn't get sick. Joey joked about me being the one getting him sick. *Rolling My Eyes* However, finding out today that Joey's uncle also feels like crap, it's got me wondering if we all have the same thing or did we all just have poor luck and each develop some illness at the same time?

Lame Acting

This very special episode of Saved by the Bell was on TBS this morning. This particular scene is a classic. Elizabeth Berkley's acting just nails it. *Laughing* Actually, it's horrible! This episode was to warn about the dangers of drugs to kids and teens in a format they would understand. Instead, to this day like to remark that this scene is the best work performed by Elizabeth Berkley. We're not alone in this, but my sister and I like to reenact this scene and laugh. The purpose of the episode backfired. When I saw it was this episode on TBS this morning, I stopped and watched it just so I could laugh at this scene.

Joey came home from Spring Break yesterday, so I had dinner with his family. I needed to see both him and his mother. Saturday, I found a movie at Target for a sweet deal. I had the movie on DVD, but Joey wanted his own copy and has been looking for it for the past month. So, I called him and told him I found it and asked did he want me to get a copy. He told me to jump on the chance and he'd pay me back. His mother called me right after I hung up with him and asked that if they had a second copy of the movie, if I would get her a copy, too. *Smile* I couldn't say no to her, so I ended up buying 2 copies of the movie. They were both pleased to get that movie on DVD. I mainly went over to drop off the DVDs.

We ended up going to dinner at Jalapeno's: Joey, his mother, and his uncle. They squeezed us into a tiny booth. None of us had much elbow room. But, dinner was nice and we all had a good time. I enjoyed talking to Joey's mother. I've been around her enough these 2 past months to feel like I know her. She's taken an interest in my family genealogy. Last night, she just listened to me as I showed her the website I made for my mother's doll collection. Also last night, she made a joke at the expensive of me being a distant cousin to both the Clintons. *Laughing* It was a great joke and a quick reply to something her son said. I didn't mind the joke. I thought it was a brilliant answer. We also got in a discussion about waitresses and waiters having a sense of humor. I told Joey's mother about my graduation dinner. At that dinner, our waiter had to put up with the hijinx of both Joey and my father. One of them would make a joke to the waiter and the other one would build on top of it, without missing a beat. I can't help but think if both of them were there for the lemon water incident, what chaos would have occurred! Joey told his mother she would like my father. Though Joey's only met my father twice, based on things I've told Joey about my father, Joey thinks he's a brilliant man.

Almost 5 Hours Without Power

Last night, the power went out at my house just after 10 PM. But not only did it go out at the house, it went out in 4 counties. Six transmission lines at the McIntosh Power Plant in nearby Rincon were cut. Nicki, back from Atlanta, was down in Richmond Hill at Cameron's place. As soon as the power went out, she called me to see if we had power. Once we confirmed with each other neither had power, we figured it was city wide. Beth confirmed for us it was city wide. She had been at work when the power went out. She got sent home and said she only saw one streetlight working the whole trip home. Of course, it was the busiest intersection in town that had a working light.

Due to the bad weather earlier in the day up around Atlanta, Matthew, Beth, and I took precautions. We put Ranger in the shed and brought Pikachu into the house from the trailer. We had a battery powered radio on to listen for weather warnings. We all stayed in the living room, together, in the dark. Around 12:10 AM, the radio station had a tornado warning go off, saying a tornado was possible spotted between Savannah and Richmond Hill and may be heading to the Windsor Forest and Isle of Hope areas of town. Just as this warning was finishing on the radio, the tornado sirens went off in our neighborhood. The whole family ran into the middle of the house, to the hall, and just sat in the hall until the tornado warning expired. Thank God we didn't get hit, but Effingham County did. *Frown*

Beth was scared about the weather, so we didn't get to bed until 2 AM. About 40 minutes later, our power came back on. I went back to my bed. I also turned on the WTOC weather channel and saw clear skies for the rest of the night. I made Beth look at the radar. That calmed her down enough to go back to sleep.

My uncle ended up calling my father to see if we were okay. He saw on the news this morning about the massive power outage down here. The news also covered in the report that most of the city's police were downtown trying to get the St. Patrick's Day celebrators home safely with the massive power outage.
