Oh My!

So, I'm spending my Saturday on the couch at home, watching TV. I caught the end of The Parent Trap. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. Next thing I end up surfing onto is Passions.

*Laughing* I could not believe what I was watching! I knew that there was a witch and a doll on that show. Well, the witch was caught in a paper bag. You didn't see Juliet Mills in this episode. And the Timmy doll made an appearance, even if the actor that played Timmy is dead. However, the thing that got me was the comment about the child that died in a train accident. The train was hit by a missile! And how the character Sheridan was recalling this incident, I just had to laugh.

This soap is bad, but a good type of bad. It knows its to be cheesy. *Laughing*

In other news, my Wesley Dinner for last night was canceled. Chris, Melissa's husband, may have had to have have emergency surgery. *Frown* Please send good thoughts and prayers for him. He is very supportive about Melissa's calling as a minister and helps her with many things. He'll be at some events, or watch Xander at home when we're at others. He's just as big as part of Welsey as Melissa and all my friends.

The Thursday Threesome: World of Warcraft

Thursday Threesome:

Onesome: World--Wide Web resources? Is there one particular area of your life, personal or professional, where you use the web as an informational resource? Knitting? Medical? Research? As an IT major, plenty of things rely on my knowing how to use the web to research information. I was the original author of Module C7 for my school's Integrating Information Retrieval into Undergraduate Curricula project. The professor has changed many of the things in it since I did the original work, since I don't have time to work on it now, but I did work on it.

Twosome: of-- the 168 hours in a given week, how much time do you spend on the computer? No, we're not looking to plan an intervention, just curious... Again, as an IT major, I spend too many to count on the computer. And it seems I always have to have a computer or a way to check my e-mail! When I went rafting last month, I took my computer to upload my photos onto it and surf the Internet once we got to the Georgia Tech Wesley home. And on the ropes course this past weekend, used my phone to check the game scores and my e-mail. At least I don't have a Crackberry.

Threesome :Warcraft-- games? Poker games? Role playing games? Do you play games on your computer? Really? What kind of games? Let me just state that I HATE World of Warcraft. It has caused many fights between Nicki and the rest of the family in this house. Mainly, like we're evil for needing her to do something while she plays the game. Oh, and you haven't heard her complain when the Internet connection goes down here at the house! It's our fault when Comcast has a problem. As for my gaming, it keep it to simple puzzle games on Yahoo! Games like Bejeweled and Pop and Drop. However, it sucks that Pop and Drop won't word on Vista. *Frown*

Geeks Being Geeks

Today, between Senior Project and afternoon classes, I hung out in the IT lounge with Joey, this guy Matthew, and Joseph.

At one point during this time, we got to talking about William Shatner's rendition of "Rocket Man" (expand this entry to see it). I don't know how we ended up on it. I probably was the one that brought it up. So, we had Matthew pull it up on YouTube and we all watched it. After that, I mentioned that Family Guy mocked it. So, we listened to that rendition and laughed at both. Really, if you haven't seen either of them, you must see Shatner's for the cheese factor and the Family Guy version for nailing it.

After the "Rocket Man" videos, We started watching videos of Kevin Pollack and his Shatner impersonations. As we watched, all I could think about is that for all the times we're trying to prove that being a computer guru does not mean we're geeks, we really were being geeky today. Finally, when I lost interested, the guys all moved on to Eddie Murphy videos.

"Savin' Me"

I loved this song as soon as I heard it, which was the same time Superman Returns came out. I can identify with it. At the moment, I need to be saved from my family, my fears, my insecurities, and my depression. Thank goodness I have an appointment with my counselor this morning.

No More Flying Ice Cream Sandwiches.

Patrick wins the battle
Uploaded by peachy92.

*Frown* Yesterday's Wesley lunch was brought to us by Enoch from Trinity United Methodist Church. He's the pastor at the church. Melissa is its associate pastor, when she's not busy with her college ministry. Of all the pastors and churches that come and visit us at Armstrong, it is Enoch that holds a special place in my heart. He was the pastor serving lunch the day I went to my first Wesley lunch. I had shyly peeked into the room and he saw me. He told me to come on in. Around the same time, he started throwing ice cream sandwiches around the room. Melissa and Chris were there with a 3-month-old Xander. I ended up sitting next to Pam and Michelle, older ladies that were nursing students. Little did I know that day that Enoch pulling me into that room would change my life for the better.

I'm sad to say that yesterday was the last time I would get assaulted by an ice cream sandwich from Enoch. Really, we all enjoy Enoch throwing the sandwiches. Patrick, pictured here, had 3 to 4 sandwiches thrown to him. Of course, his brother Joseph took one away when Patrick dropped it. However, I've gotten to know these boys because of Wesley Foundation. Well, I know Joseph because I've tutored him a few times, we're in the same major, and we're ACM members. However, the point is I've met plenty of great people via Wesley Foundation.

Yesterday's sermon from Enoch was about Zacchaeus the Tax Collector. I've been a bad little Christian. I don't really recall the story. I may have heard it once at St. Mary's. Then again, they never went over the Bible with us at St. Mary's, nor in my CCD classes. We had an interesting discussion about what the story meant. Seems there is a song about the story.

We also sang Melissa "Happy Birthday." Chris and Xander stopped by with cake and to spend some time with her yesterday. All of use college kids love seeing Xander. Yes, he's 3-years-old now. All he did was sleep when I first met him. Now, he talks and high-fives, and wants to ride Mommy's bus. I can't believe how much he's grown.

Boy, am I going to be reminiscing more and more about my time here at school to closer I get to graduation. I know no longer having Wesley Foundation is going to put a big hole in my heart. I know I'm going to have to find something to replace it.

As Weekends Should Be.

Erin climbing the wall.
Moblogged by peachy92.

Yesterday was spent most of the day with my great friends from Wesley Foundation. It was Erin, Jessie, Ashlee, Matt, Calum and his new girlfriend, in addition to Melissa driving us all down there in a bus. We went to St. Simons Island to Epworth-by-the-Sea for another ropes course. All the activities we did were different from the last time the group did the course. This time, we did a Simon Says like game, an activity where we had to all change sides using only a rope and a wooden crate attached to a pulley and a wire, without touching the ground, climb a wall, and climb and jump from a telephone pole. The only camera I had on me this time was my phone's camera. Melissa and Matt brought the cameras this time, so I'll have to the pictures of me from the day from them.

The wire and pullet activity went over smoothly. It took us 2 attempts to do it. Jessie stepped into the "shark water," causing the repeat. Thankfully, she did it early in the activity. The hardest part was the carrying crate was out of hands reach, so we had to use a rope to grab it and pull it to us. It took my team longer to get longer to do it the second time than it took the other team to get it done. However, once we grabbed it, the exchange of teams was easy. *Smile* I think that was my favorite of the day.

I did better on the wall down there than the wall at school on Wednesday. I got half way up the wall before my arms gave out. For those that have never climbed a wall or have done rock climbing, it takes a lot of arm and upper body strength. For never doing until Wednesday, not getting 2 feet off the ground on Wednesday, to getting half way up on Saturday, I'm going to be proud of myself. And yes, I do have a fear of heights. It did not become more apparent until the telephone pole activity. I had climbed to the top. And then, I froze. I would stand on top of the pole. I would not move. I was afraid to jump. I can ride the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags that's 200 feet in the air, but I would not jump 15 feet off the jump with a harness on me and a person holding me but a rope. I don't know why I froze. Melissa even took a picture of the fear on my face. It took me a minute or two and plenty of reassurance that they would not let me plummet to the ground. I did get down by slowly jumping. Still it was just scary. My dad felt the most important thing is that I took a chance.

After the course, the group had a fun dinner on the island at Brogan's and watched the Miami/Florida State game. We had fun watching it go back and forth. We had been score watching that game while still on the course via my cell phone. And when we headed home, we still kept up with the score on the phone, when we weren't talking. It was on the bus that I realized I was with my family. This was probably my last big activity with these guys and girls, but they became my family in the past 3 years. They accept me for who I am and are happy to be around me. I am going to miss them all. And before we got back to campus, we picked up Xander, Melissa's 3-year-old. We're all college kids, but we always have fun with Xander. Now that he talks, it's fun to see what he'll repeat. Don't worry, we keep it clean.

Today was spent sleeping in and then heading out to the wildlife refuge for my Photography assignment. The gators weren't out today, save one. It was baby and this family kept throwing rocks at it. I wish I had had the nerve to tell them they were abusing it. They didn't want it to come to them, but they kept throwing things at it to make it think they were feeding it. Would have serve them right if it had gotten out of the water and bit them. After that trip, I went to Michael's for some mats for the rest of the assignment.

When I got home, my joined my dad to watch one exciting 4th quarter between the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans. Houston came back from 7 points to take the lead with less than a minute to go. However, the Titans did get the win. Looks like I'm starting to enjoy football.
