And I got to get off my ass and do more work on my Senior Project.
Today, I spent most of my day downtown with these guys and gal to finish our ACM planning retreat. Most of the activities related to the retreat were held in the George Watson room of the River Street Inn. That's an nice little hotel there for being downtown and on the water. We had a nice view of the river; we saw several boats and barges go up and down it.
This picture was taken at one point around noon on the riverfront. We took several photos outside with the interim head of the School of Computing. He came out to talk to us and give us a few ideas. I had him many moons ago when I attempted Computer Science as a major. He still remembered me after all those years when I took my brother for advisement in 2004.
When we weren't working, we were playing. Chris, our faculty advisor, had some little games planned for us to play, like we did last night. And a few times, we snuck over to the game room across the hall and played some pool.
We also took some time out and visited one of the museum homes in town. We had a private tour of the Owens-Thomas House. It was a very interesting home. It had some curved doors, false doors, a cellar, and other stuff. Our tour guide told us it had the largest intact slave quarters in the United States. That is helpful to those that want to document slave life in the United States.
I have decided that I have to get more swimming under my belt this fall, I hate how I looked in the photos today. Maybe I shouldn't have worn that shirt with those pants. However, it was so hot, the outfit I wore today made sense. Yet, I looked like the fat cow I am in some of the photos. Thank goodness I run the ACM site. I cane make sure the slimmer photos of me at posted. ![]()
My problem is I have a troublesome middle section. Some of it is fat. Some of it is genetics. I can't fight my genes, but I can try to lose the fat. I wish I were more active, but Savannah is so hot, I don't want to go outside to do anything. I don't really have the space to exercise at home. I don't have the car nor the money at the moment to use the school gym. But, once school starts, I will have a car again, and I'll be able to stay on campus longer to do school work and have access to the rec center and pool again. I have got to be more active.

This picture is from tonight's game. Julio Franco is wearing the #14 jersey, the one he had in 2005. #4 was the jersey number he had in 2001. #14 was the jersey number from 2002-2005. Seems he had a good night. He had 2 RBI night off a single in the 4th. I missed most of the game because I was busy planning for a school club. I did get home in time to see him take an at-bat. The AJC site has a good article on his homecoming: Franco glad to be 'home'. He wanted to come back to the Atlanta Braves, or he would have quit the game if the Braves did not sign him. He felt the Braves would be the only team to understand him, welcome him, and know how to use him in a game.
Some people are complaining that he's washed up. I guess the Braves brass didn't think so. It could be that the New York Mets' dynamic was such that the didn't need him. The Braves could use him. The Braves currently have a natural catcher (Jarrod Saltalamacchia) playing first base because of expected first baseman (Scott Thorman) can't hit. Julio can do no worse than Thorman. Saltalamacchia has a bat. Julio can spell Saltalamacchia (Salty) or play when Salty has to spell McCann, like tonight after the disaster yesterday afternoon. Julio can also teach the youngsters in the clubhouse. I believe the Braves missed him and his wisdom last year. Funny how last year, with the Mets, they won the pennant. This year, the Braves can win it again. The Braves had nothing to lose, save $200,000.00, to bring Julio back to the team.
Today was quite an adventure. This evening, we started the planning and leadership-skills building retreat for the school's ACM Chapter's Council. Besides starting to plan, we did games to work on skills. One game was Amazing Race-like on campus. My partner, Mike, and I did poorly. However, we were in second place. We ended up at Compass Point to look for something. It wasn't there, and Compass Point is on the other side of campus. I did run into Aric while out there, so as Mike and I headed back to Science Center and Aric went wherever he went, I caught Aric up on the website deal. That's a whole another story.
The other game was a drawing game I won. My time iSketching paid off on it. While the others just sat, I was yelling out any word I could think of. And it paid off. I was able to get JAVA and interface. Joey was drawing interface; he felt no one would get it.
I ended up winning a cup and creamed everyone else.
Well, I'm off to bed. I have to be at school at 9 so the ACM Council can go to downtown and plan, as well as visit the Owens-Thomas house. I will be taking my camera on that tour.

Twosome: this-- is way past the half way point of Summer; how are vacation and other plans working out for you? Here's hoping you're doing well! School starts up again in less than a month. Next week, I have got to get off my ass and work on my Senior Project. Senior Project has felt like those books you're required to read over the summer for school. I never liked summer reading. Who wants to read when they aren't in school?
Threesome: Book-- query: Whatcha' readin' this week? No, not "The Harry"! Arrgh! ...okay, if that's a big thing, sure <g>.Nothing at the moment.

Lolcats now have their own quiz:
Your Score: Sad Cookie Cat
54% Affectionate, 39% Excitable, 51% Hungry

You are the classic Shakespearian tragedy of the lolcat universe. The sad story of a baking a cookie, succumbing to gluttony, and in turn consuming the very cookie that was to be offered. Bad grammar ensues.
