Candid Shots.

In a blog entry about BlogSavannah, a person remarked about a picture I took of him getting some coffee. I left him a comment telling him that the picture may mean something to someone one day.

I have found that since my mother has died, I've been taking a lot of a photos in my life. When she died, I realized all I have left of her is memories. Photographs are part of those memories. On my dresser, I have copies of some digital photos I took of my mother and father after we got our first digital camera. On my laptop, I have a picture of her eating spaghetti. The look on her face is that she was not happy that Hai, a family friend, took that picture. However, I love that picture. It's not the best picture of her, but it's her. It's her in her house enjoying dinner. It's her in her element. Another photo I have of my mother, which I want to print, is one of Graysie suckling on her ear. It was a site to see, and I can no longer see that, except in this photograph.

My father doesn't mind me taking all these pictures. I think he understands my need for taking them. I've also let up on allowing myself to be photographed. What I may deem a horrible picture might mean something to someone in the future. All my candid shots area way to preserve a memory. So if you see me with my camera, don't hide. Let me take that shot. Let me remember the good and the bad.

BlogSavannah Un-conference 2007

BlogSavannah Un-conference
Uploaded by peachy92.

I spent all day downtown at the first Blogsavannah Un-conference 2007. It was held at Bryson Hall on Chippewa Square. It was sponsored by SavannahNow and The Creative Coast. About 80 bloggers from the Southeast were there. Even WTOC came and did an article on "Bloggers Gather in Savannah for Conference." Thankfully, I was not interviewed for the article. However, I am in one of the pictures in WTOC's article. The video is up, as well. Thankfully, I'm not in it, either. Most of the video footage was shot in the morning.

My one problem about the conference was that is was a little too corporate and business-like for my liking. I don't know if was meant to turn out that way, but it did. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it. I did. It was interesting being one of the few people in the room that blogged for pleasure. We had an interesting discussion in the "Women and Blogging" talk, hosted by Gennie at Dizzy Girl. I spoke a bit in that talk, since I'm a younger woman blogger. I mentioned that over the 6½ years I have been doing this, I have evolved as a blogger, and in a sense, a person. I also mentioned that if one person feels better and not alone from reading something on my site, than it's doing its job. Over the years, I have gotten quite a few e-mails over random entries and my writings.

I seemed to be the only college student there. Not even my IT professor that was going to come came to the event. I guess I had a different prospective than everyone else. As I was leaving, one of the ladies at the event asked me what I planned on doing once I'm out of college. I'm really not sure. I can cross web development off, since there are plenty of web developers in town. I like to think my IT degree will show I'm a well rounded person, skills wise. Even if I don't get an IT job, I hope I'm able to get a well paying job in town.

I also got some free stuff. Plenty of stickers, the latest copy of The South magazine, couple of rubber bracelet, some Flickr buttons, and a t-shirt. In addition to this, I saw my old friend, Miriam. After all these years, I'm still that history girl. She came over to the event during her lunch break.

I also took plenty of photos of the event. I've got them uploaded on Flickr and PIXels. Some of the pictures are from last night at the get-together at Venus De Milo. When Nicki heard that, she laughed at the thought this straight-laced sister of hers went to that bar. Afterwards, I went with Andrew Odom, the organizer, his wife Brit, some of their friends, and Josh Hallett of Hyku.com. The dinner was very different. Shame my sister when to Boston yesterday. I think she would have had some fun being there. I ended up meeting one of her co-workers and his roommates, since they were friends of the Odoms. I think she would have found one of the roommates to be a trip.

In other news, I finally got the check for the totaling of my IJAC. That means my carlessness will end soon. Once the check is processed by my bank, I'll have access to the funds. Then I have to pay off my sister's car, transfer it to my name, and repair it. It felt so good to get that check in the mail yesterday. Of course, I rather still have IJAC. That car meant a lot to me. My mother and I shopped for that car together.

As for this weekend, I'm going to stay home. I need my rest, after all the stress from this past week.

The Thursday Threesome: Plaid Kittens Attack!

Thursday Threesome:

Onesome: Plaid-- Yes? No? Wouldn't even consider it? Makes the outfit? Makes terrible wallpaper? Ok, plaid might do well, in a man's bathroom. My high school days were in the height of the grunge era. The only time plaid ever looked good to me in that time was when Logan wore it. *Laughing* However, I think the person in high school that I saw wear it the most was Mike. Mike and Logan were best friends back in those days. We had the same lunch period. So, when I'd pine over Logan, I would see Mike as well. Mike once told me that his group of friends would have liked me back then. But, that was a lifetime ago. "The past is gone but something might be found to take its place."

Twosome: Kittens-- Cutest things in the world? Creatures from another planet? Things other people have? Are you going to tell me this isn't cute:

Harri

Threesome: Attack!-- of the Killer Tomatoes! Okay, what's your vote for the worst movie title of all time? I'm looking at the IMDB Bottom 100. These catch my eyes:

Thankfully, I haven't seen any of them!

Mental Exhaustion.

Some people may think I live a plush life. In some ways, I do. In other ways, I don't. Today is an example. I wanted to cry as soon as I got home. I have so much to do for school. I had 2 important assignments due today, including a 5 page, single spaced, paper. Yesterday, I had to deliver my monologue from Oepidus Rex. Today, I was assigned a group presentation for Ethics. I'm worried about my future professional life. I really want to stay in town. I hope I can find a job here in town. I need to be near my dad. He needs me, and I need him. I'm working on my social life. I just wonder if I'll have a great one after I get out of school. I'm worried about my car accident. I'm worried about my financial situtation. And it's stressful sharing 4 vehicles between 5 drivers all with different schedules. I have a lot on my plate at the moment.

Thankfully, I'll get a mental day of rest tomorrow. I have a noon meeting on my job, which I haven't done in a few months. I can't work on it until next week. I will attend the meeting. After that, I've got to finish my Graphics Design classwork. As soon as I finish that and show it to my professor, I can go home. Theater isn't meeting tomorrow. I need the rest. Oh, and I have a project due for Graphics next week. Thankfully, I got half of that project completed last night and today. As soon as I got home this evening, I took a nice, long shower. Physically, I feel better. Mentally, I'm still drained.

I know in due time, this running ragged will stop. I will have my own car. I will be finished with school. I will have a nice job. I will have a social life. But at the moment, I just want to cry to feel better.

How Am I Going To Remember My Monologue?

Graysie and Scooter
Uploaded by peachy92.

I have to present it tomorrow. Class isn't until 4:30, so tomorrow, prior to class, will be spent working on memorizing the last few lines. I completed the bulk of my Ethics paper today. I need to re-print and tidy up my references. I'll do that Wednesday, before classes. I can get it done. Once I get through Wednesday afternoon, I should be fine for the rest of the week.

Today's Wesley lunch was fun. Jessie, some of the guys, and I somehow got into a conversation about Duggar family. Mainly, we all had a bunch of question we couldn't answer about having 16 kids. As for the sermon, it came from Luke 4:16-21. At the end of lunch, Jessie asked if we would come to an animal benefit concert at The Sentient Bean on Saturday. Jessie's passionate about animals. I'm not a coffee house person, but I don't mind helping animals.

Last night, I looked up the member list for the BlogDavannah Un-conference that will be on Friday. I found out that my Systems Analysis professor will be attending the conference as well. He saw it mentioned in the newspaper yesterday and decided to sign up for the networking connections. 76 people will be there! I wasn't expecting that many people to be there. I plan on taking my laptop and camera there. I need to get a tripod for my camera before then. I'll need it when I go to St. Simons as well.

Today's picture is of Scooter and Graysie. They don't hang out like this anymore. This is a rare event. When I see them together, Scooter's asleep at my head and Graysie's at my feet. I had to take this picture. Just as the flash snapped, Scooter was yawning. That's why his face is funny.

Off to read my monologue again.

I Found My Sister's School Schedule

Beth started at Savannah Tech this semester. Being 9 years younger than me, she's had the fortune of getting teachers than never taught me. Nicki, all her life, and Matthew, in his high school years, had teachers that had me before them. My 6th grade teacher, who Nicki had a year later, once called Nicki by my first and middle names before calling her by her first and middle names. Finally, the teacher just called by her last name. In high school, in order to get Matthew to do better in History, my mother invoked my name to Matthew's history teacher, who I had in high school. After putting on the pressure of being my kid brother, Matthew did better in that class. Yet, Beth never had one of my teachers. Until now.

I always wondered about my 11th and 12th grade math teacher. Matthew and Beth never had her in high school. Since Beth went to my high school, I'd thought she might have her one day. My math teacher wasn't there when Beth attended. The last I heard about her, she was still in Savannah. Mike, who had her when we were in 10th grade, had her as one of his college math professors. He said he did well, since she knew him prior to college. However, that story was the last I heard of her. That was over 2 years ago when we had that discussion.

Imagine my surprise to find Beth's schedule. My father handed it to me when he had no clue what it was. I looked over it to figure out what the paper was. As I looked over it, I saw a familiar name. Beth's math professor is my high school math teacher! When I told Beth I had her professor in high school, Matthew remarked that I ruined another teacher for the rest of them. I doubt she remembers me. However, after 19 years, Beth finally got a teacher that I once had.

My dad today was spent sleeping, watching football, and working on some school work. I don't feel like I was productive. I got the proposal for my senior project done, as well as 3 complete pages written for my 5 page paper. I plan on finishing the paper tomorrow at the library. I need a few more resources to flesh it out. I still need to memorize my 20 line monologue for Theater. Matthew, for only the second time, had this professor before I did. He says 20 lines is nothing. I just haven't had the time, nor the will, to learn these lines. All I know is "Set your mind at rest. If it is a question of soothsayers, I tell you that you will find no man whose craft gives knowledge of the unknowable," if I can remember the word soothsayers. *Sigh* I'll get it done. Just to get through Wednesday night, when I turn in my papers.
