I went to Ft. Pulaski today. I've lived here 13 years and had never been there. It was $3.00 admission, but worth it. I picked a good day to go. It was a Living History Day. There were tours, musket demonstrations, and cannon firings. This picture is from the musket demonstration I watched. In addition to the demonstrations, I toured the grounds.
Cockspur Island, the island that is home to Ft. Pulaski, has a rich history. John Wesley, one of the most important historical figures in Methodism, landed on the island and preached there. There's a historical marker on the island to mark his landing. Seeing this makes me want to take my camera and go back to Ft. Frederica. Just outside the fort, there's some historical markers related to John Wesley and his brother, Charles. I'm not going to have time to visit these sights when I'm down that way next month. I don't if many people in this area understand Savannah's importance to the United Methodist Church.
I also hiked out towards the Cockspur Island lighthouse. It's about a ¾ mile hike from the fort parking lot to the lighthouse. It wore me out. About an hour after I got home, I had to nap. However, I know the hike was good for me.
If you want to see the photos, I uploaded them both on Flickr and PIXels. Both sites have the same photos.

I think I saw an otter. I'm not sure what it was. He wouldn't hold still long enough for me to make out what it was and take a picture of it. This was the best picture I got of it. I was on the banks of the Wilmington River at Bonaventure today. If it is an otter, I didn't know we had any in this area.
Yes, there are some more Bonaventure pictures on my Flickr account. I woke up late today from a nightmare about my mother. I think I went to the cemetery for some solace. I hate waking up from nightmares when there's a chance to save my mother and it doesn't happen.
After I got home from Bonaventure, my dad and I went off to car shop. I don't have the money for anything, at the moment. I'm getting a nice sized check for my car. It's a pretty down payment. I'm thinking of getting a Honda CR-V. It's a small SUV, perfect for me. Now, it's just to get the rest of the funds to pay for it. It will work out. Until then, I guess I'm getting Nicki's car fixed and driving the van. At the moment, she's driving the van. However, if I have the funds to get her car fixed, I will. Still, I need my own car, not my mother's van. The thing about my Malibu was that I chose it for me. No one else picked it out for me. I didn't settle for it. I don't want to settle for another vehicle, either. Like I said, it will work out.

Today, prior to classes, I went to the bookstore out at GA 204 and I-95. I was out there buying a book for Senior Project. I decided to browse. In addition to getting the school book, I picked up a couple of more IT related books and a Bible. I've been needing my own Bible for a while. I picked out a nice, pink one.
However, my little Bible is not what caught my eye. It was the Extreme Teen Bible.
Just what is an extreme teen Bible? What's different than a regular Bible? I think the word extreme threw me off. Does it have pictures of a skydiving Jesus? Is Jesus skateboarding?
As I was out there, I found a new little neighborhood being built across the street from the factory outlet where the bookstore is. I took a small trip and looked at the homes.
Classes were fine today. In Theater, we did a little improvisation based on daily routines. My routine was taking medicine. I've got a problem with the book needed for the class. I looked it up to buy today, only to find out it's the same book I had for Theater Appreciation in 2004. So, I have the book. It's just in Beth's car, which is in the shop.
I'll need to get it soon. As for Graphics Design, we started using Dreamweaver. I'll have to learn to use that.
That's my day.
Onesome: Strange-- twists and turns on the web? Do you recall how you ended up here at the Back Porch? ...just curious. It's been so long, I don't remember. Okay, my first Thursday Threesome entry was March 21, 2002
Twosome: Little-- by little we branch out and bloom. How often do you post per week? Is that more or less than six months ago? It depends on what's going on with me at the moment. If I'm busy, about 4 a week. If I have a lot to say, more. Sometimes, I just disappear.
Threesome: Bud-- break time is coming later this year. ...but are the bulbs in your area pushing up through the soil yet? I've seen a dogwoods in bloom and a few azaleas, too.
I'm expecting freezing temps in February and March to make up for this warm December.
And here's a few games I discovered last night: 1) Trump vs. Rosie - Choose either team Rosie or team Trump and wack your opponate Mortal Kombat style. 2) Youppi! Swap - Another swap the piece game, based on the Montréal Canadiens mascot.

When I got home from school today, Graysie got out the back door.
After about 30 minutes letting her run and searching for her, in the dark, she ran to the door and went into the house. It's her way of getting attention. At night, it's not safe for her to be out. She's a void in the dark with her coloring. A black cat can be seen in the dark. Graysie can't. We've stepped on her a few times at night because we can't see her. After the escapade outside, she spent an hour with me, just wanting to be held and loved. I always figured if something happened to my mother, she would be mine. I try to give her the love she wants and got from my mother.
I also spoke to my cousin on the phone. She called me by accident, trying to reach my father. It's understandable. My cell phone number and my father's number are close in range. Only the last 2 digits vary. Well, we both have a 9, but they are not in the same place. And he has an 8 in his number, whereas I have a 3 in my number. Other than that, our numbers are the same. We just caught up on things. She reminded me I need to write an e-mail to another family member. I will, after Senior Project tomorrow.
School was fine today. I went to school early to do some reading. That did me some good.
I got my reading for Ethics done. As I went to start my Theater reading, Renee came into the lounge. We ended up talking and I told her about my scholarship. All this time she attended, she had no clue about it. So, as I was getting her information on it, we walked by my advisor's office and spoke to him for a while. Included in our discussion was the scholarship and the Un-conference ‘07, being sponsored by SavannahNow and The Creative Coast. He knew that I was planning on attending it, because my name is on the list of attendees. I have to put on a good front for the sake of the school.
I'm mainly going to the event since it's related to my hobby and my major. It's a personal thing, my going, but I won't be surprised if others at school will want to know more as a result.
So, after most of my early afternoon with Renee, I went to my Theater class. I don't have to know my Oedipus Rex monologue until the 23rd. That makes me feel better. I wouldn't have learned it in two days. I'm no longer 15, trying to memorize If in 2 days. After that class, I went to the packed Graphics Design class. Now that class is a shining example of the IT field. Of 27 or so students, 3 of are female. 3. I think of my IT classes, this is the one with the least females. 4 of the females I've been in classes with graduated last semester. I know there are a few more in the major, but not at my level. There are also only 3 females in my Ethics class. I don't know how many will be in Senior Project, besides Renee and myself. I told my dad the male:female ratio. He hopes that it helps me get a job for those trying to honor Equal Opportunity requirements. It's a shame that I'll have to rely on my sex to get far.
Another day in my life. ![]()

Today was my first day back in school, since the break. I only had on class today. It was my computer ethics class. It's going to require some writing and plenty of reading. And group projects.
I'll worry about them when we get to them. There are 2 guys in the class I won't mind working with, since one is a hard worker, like I am, and the other is an older student working on his Masters in computer science .Senior Project won't meet Wednesday. Half the class showed up for it today, only for me to tell them we won't meet until Wednesday.
I went to school early enough to go the the Wesley lunch. Today's speaker was this gentleman, the Rev. Marty McLeod from Port Wentworth United Methodist Church. This picture is of him from last year's state Wesley Retreat in Dahlonega. He spoke about Abraham, prayer, and opening doors. He's a really funny guy when he preaches. He also preached in Dahlonega. The amazing thing about this guy is just seeing him in action. He's blind, but that doesn't define him. He's a singer and a preacher. That is who he is. He's all about being positive. He's a great reminder to keep chugging along in life and nothing should stop you from being a happy, spiritual person. He just started preaching at Port Wentworth back in June.
The Wesley Foundation will be having several events this semester. Next weekend,we're having dinner at Melissa's house, again. They are fun. On the 9th of February, we will be going to the state Wesley Retreat. This year's retreat is in St. Simons Island. We have the most students going this year of the 3 I will/have attended. The first year I went, there were 3 Armstrong students, with a 4th one joining us for the day. Last year, there were 4 of us. We have at least 5 or 6 at the moment. I'm also going to have to start thinking of if I'm going to this year's United Methodist Student Movement Forum in Tacoma, Washington. Melissa asked me today if I wanted to go. I've never been to the Pacific time zone. It would be cool to go.
After my Ethics class, I spoke with Charles, a fellow ACM member, who is in the class as well. He told me the Sweetheart 5K run will be done by the ACM again this year. It just happens to fall on the same weekend I'm going to St. Simons Island. Looks like I won't be doing it.
He said he may become an ACM officer. I told him that I'm willing to help, except for the Sweetheart 5K. I just asked him to make sure the ACM does stuff this semester. We hardly did anything last semester. It was a disappointment. This semester has to be better.
Tomorrow, I will have Intro to Theater and Graphics Design. For the theater class, I need to memorize a monologue from Oedipus Rex. The professor has already sent us the syllabus for that class via e-mail. I'm not too happy about the having to memorize something the first week!
