This bouncing back and forth between Fayetteville and Savannah is going to drive me bonkers. In just over a month, I have been up there 3 times. Once to help Joey move home and twice for a job interview. And since October, I have been there about 7 times. I know my way now around that part of the state. And in about 2 weeks, I'll have to return, again.
Why? I got the job I was up there to interview for. The guys I spoke with liked me and felt I was what the company needed.
Believe in God or not, but this job was meant to be. It's the job offer I mentioned I didn't have any contact information for to return a notice of interest to them. The original recruiter got back to me the night before Joey and I left for his return home. We had just solved the problem with my sisters when my voice mail went off and I had contact information for pursuing the job further. I called the woman the next day and got the information she requested to her Monday before I left Joey's folks' place. The family knew I would be back within the week. Once I got back to Savannah, I had an interview on the phone and arranged for an interview on Tuesday in Atlanta. And in my last post, I remarked about getting there and having my hair done and going suit shopping. Those moves worked. I got the job.
My first day on the job is a month from today. I've got to start looking for a place to live that will meet my needs, including having a few cats, start packing, and start preparing for a new chapter in my life. To be honest, I am scared as heck. I'm going to be doing things I have never done before. For the first time in my life, I will be dependent only on myself. At least I have Joey's family up there to help me if needed. I sort have been adopted by his folks as a daughter and an aunt by the twins niece and nephew.
I also met Joey's son for the first time Wednesday. I saw him once before in October for about 5 minutes and at Monday and Tuesday's ball games. However, I never had a chance to really meet him and talk to him. We weren't formally introduced, but The Kiddo liked me. At lunch time, when we first really got a chance to talk, he told me he knew who I was and that he knew had been at his game the night before. I confirmed it was me. When he finished his lunch, he and his father went to play video games. When The Kiddo got tired of losing to Joey, I asked him did he want to play a board game. He played it with me until Joey came out to get him to go run some baseball drills, as was planned for the day. The Kiddo asked me to join them. So, I did. We spent an hour just working on throwing and fielding. Joey hit the ball and The Kiddo and I worked on catching and fielding it. The three of us then went to the batting cages so father and son could work on hitting. I just sat and watched, for the most part, and cheered The Kiddo as he made some beautiful swings. Okay, I cheered Joey, too. I did take a few swings in the softball cage. I might as well learn and practice the game when given the chance. By the time we finished in at the cages, it was time to take the boy back to his mother. The Kiddo didn't quite want to go home just yet. He wanted to stay at his dad's a bit longer and play a video game with not Dear Dad, but me. When he realized he wasn't going to be able to do it, he asked was I going to be over tomorrow. I told him I had to get home myself the next day. He seemed disappointed in not getting a chance to play a game with me. Maybe next time. I think he liked me.
I took my time getting home yesterday. I dropped by the museum in Warner Robins again. Saw a bit more I didn't get to see on Saturday.
Today, I went out and had lunch with Lindsey and just talked with her. I needed her point of view on some things. I caught her up on what happened to me since she last saw me. She's happy I got a job. I would have told my old professor about the job, too, but no one else was there. Oh well. Found out this week from both Lindsey and Joey, at the same time, that Malinowski, my Client-Server professor that I had seen at a Tech Fest in 2006 as a speaker, is leaving Armstrong. He got a tenure-track position at a college in Albany, GA. Lindsey sent me an e-mail about it and I was reading it the same time Joey got an e-mail directly from the professor about the move. Looks like the IT department is undergoing a radical change. And I won't be there to witness it. I'll be Atlanta bound.
Wish me luck. I still need it.

Congrats on the job! I know moving to a new place is kind of scary (when I moved to Idaho, I knew absolutely no one), but the challenge of it will mitigate some of it.
Posted by: sya at May 23, 2008 7:32 PMCongratulations! I'm glad you got a job where you wanted!
I agree moving is scary, but you seem up to the challenge. And at least you have a month to prepare....that's a good thing! Maybe God was just holding off until the perfect job came up.
Posted by: Chewie at May 24, 2008 9:25 AMHello, I just surfed in from BE and I wanted to send my congrats your way for getting the job. I hope the transistion/change goes smoothly for you.
Posted by: Aden at May 26, 2008 11:43 AMCongratulations on the job! Please keep us posted on how working toward the move is going - and you'll be in my prayers.
Great news about the job, congrats! I'm sure it will be scary at first, and maybe a bit lonely, but it will get better and you will see how nice it can be not having to abide by any one else's schedule. Having total control over your life can be very nice. I'm jealous that you will be so close to a MLB stadium.
