Church Sign

This morning, I woke up, rolled out of bed, and took a shower. I threw on some clothes and went out to Port Wentworth. Melissa told us the other night that she was doing the sermon for the Rev. Marty McLeod at Port Wentworth United Methodist Church. Marty's jaw is wired at the moment as the result of a deer-related car accident over the summer. Because of that, Melissa filled in for him this week and last week. Lindsey and Chris also showed up. Melissa even mentioned in her sermon that 3 of her students came, along with her husband and his tape recorder. She was recording the sermon for the upcoming review process she has in the Church.

Melissa based her lecture on Luke 14:25-33. As part of her lecture, she brought up this woman she met at a friend's wedding. The woman is a vegan and works for the John Edwards campaign. She likened that woman working for John Edwards like the people that would follow Jesus as mentioned in the Luke passage. Melissa also brought up the quirky little signs churches create, like this one I captured back in March. Melissa said she doesn't care for them. She felt like they summerize faith in a 2 second saying, taking away meaning from being active in the church. I feel something different about them. I like them. They get me to think. The longer it takes me to get a sign, the stronger the message is to me. I don't see them as a way of being lazy in faith; I see them as a way of keeping faith in all sorts of places. I'm all the time passing at least 5 different church signs between school and home.

When the service was over, I headed out to the wildlife refuge and looked at the wildlife.

After I got home, I spoke to my dad. He just told me to remember I'm Catholic since that's what my mother raised me as. *Laughing* We both remembered that the Methodist church is the one other Christian church my mother worked with about 20 years ago. He remembered she liked that church. I remembered she encouraged me in being active with Wesley Foundation. And as we continued, a Geico ad with Chatty Cathy dolls came on the TV. We stopped talking and watched to see what the point of the ad was. My mother collected Chatties. It was only natural it caught my eye.

My dad and I watched the 2nd through 4th quarters of the Tennessee Titans play the Jacksonville Jaguars. He didn't think it would be a local game. Since it was down at Jacksonville, it was. The first part of what we saw frustrated us. And then, like last season, the Titans came back in the 2nd half and won the game. They have to stop doing that! It's not good for my father! Once we saw our team won, we drove down to Richmond Hill and picked up Nicki.

Tomorrow's going to be a busy day for me. I've got Golf, Digital Photography, and an ACM meeting. Plus, I need to get off my butt and start working on my 8 page business plan that's due on the 27th. I'll work on that tomorrow.

Did you hear that thing about Sara Evans maybe having an affair with all these guys? I saw a list of some of them and Richard Marx was on it! I don't think Richard would do something like that. I guess we just have to wait and see what happens.

I read that! I think some of those names just appeared as a way to grasp for straws. To him, eventually, she slept with one of them.

I don't think Richard did. He's still mad about Cynthia.
