"Except When I Dress Up As A Frigid Bitch, I Try Not To Look So Constipated."
August 30, 2007

That quote just popped into my head today as I was in Meteorology class. I always think of the weirdest stuff in that class. Today was a bad day for me and the professor. I tried asking questions in class, and I don't think he understood me. He tried answering the questions as he understood, and it made me feel and look like a fool. Both had to deal with calculating the angle of the sun in the sky. One question was me trying to figure out where a negative sun angle was at. The other one dealt with a figure being subtracted in the equation was always going to be an absolute value. In Astronomy class, I had trouble figuring out angles as well, so I have to think of a formula that works for me. That's why I asked the absolute value question. I'm not going to fault him, however. He admitted at the start of class that he forgot our notes. It just ended up a bad day.

However, my bad day continued when I went to the IT lounge. What's with female English majors and their IT major boyfriends thinking that the IT lounge is their special place to cuddle, make out, and do other couples stuff? *Yuck!* I couldn't use the IT lounge to do my school work because there is a couple of kids in there that are turning the IT lounge into their leisure hut. They're 19; they think they know everything. Tuesday, the English major spent most of the day on the IT major's lap. Today, they are gaming in the lounge. It's annoying because that's a place for us to do our work. Instead, I'm in the ACM room having to work on my work. I've been putting up with the kids until today, when there were no outlets for Internet access or my computer's power adaptor to be used. Really, if they want to game and cuddle, go home; don't do it at school.

We IT people are just lucky to have the 2 crappy computers and the 3 IP addresses we have in there. Having English majors invade (IT's in the same building as English) and then the room being used for things other than doing school work defeats the purpose of the lounge.

I'm angry at Financial Aid. They didn't process all of my financial aid. I was expecting a $3,000.00 check. They sent me a $300.00 check. My CSEMS scholarship and my student loan weren't processed. I just came back from Victor Hall to go talk to them. I didn't. The line is long. Looks as if they screwed over a lot of people. You know, if they worked on Fridays, like the rest of the damn world does, maybe half the campus wouldn't be over there ready to kill Financial Aid.

And finally, Thursday Threesome, Over the Rainbow:

Onesome: "Over-- the Rainbow" Has someone 'Somewhere' done the song better than Judy Garland did in the movie? ...or does she still 'own' it in your opinion? Can't beat the original!

Twosome: the-- best all time album in your collection? ...or one you'd like to have? Sure, the Go-Gos count, but hey... It so hard to choose now. When I was younger, it was Repeat Offender by Richard Marx. Now that my taste has grown, I'm liking a lot of stuff.

Threesome: Rainbow"?-- As sung by Billy Ray Cyrus? (Yes, on his latest album.) Who has done the best "cover" of a song you like to listen to? You know, better than the original artist... "Beautiful by Richard Marx. Originally done by Carole King, Richard's version is faster and more upbeat than Carole's. In fact, my mother, a huge Carole fan, prefered Richard's version. When I'd get blue, she'd sing me the song and remark "just like Richard sang."

Speaking of Judy Garland, there is an exciting and popular new group on Yahoo called The Judy Garland Experience. The group is huge, and has the most diverse collection of Garland fans anywhere! The membership includes Garland family members, other celebrities, authors, film makers, fans of all ages, and more. The only one missing is you!
There is always a lively discussion going on, and the groups photo and audio files are simply amazing. This week they are having an audio retrospective of Judy’s many concerts at the Palace 1951-1967, with interviews, promos, backstage shennanigans caught on tape, tracks from several of her concerts there, and Miss Joan Crawford (who joined Judy on stage one hot August night in 1967). Please stop by our little Judyville and check it out. You may never want to leave!

There have been many fine versions of "Over the Rainbow"...just this morning I was listening to a summer mix CD I burned which features the lovely, delicate version by the late, great Hawaiian singer Israel Kamakawiwo'ole...but it will always be Judy's song nevertheless. Of course, this is coming from someone who loved to watch "The Wizard of Oz" each and every time it was broadcast when he was a child :-)

Best all time album? Too many albums in my collection to say but judging by the number of times I've had re-purchase it (due to unreturned loans of it or upgrades from vinyl to CD) it appears that The Beatles' "Abbey Road" would be in the running.

Michael, I totally forgot about that Hawaiian themed version. It is nice and different.
