I went to Ft. Pulaski today. I've lived here 13 years and had never been there. It was $3.00 admission, but worth it. I picked a good day to go. It was a Living History Day. There were tours, musket demonstrations, and cannon firings. This picture is from the musket demonstration I watched. In addition to the demonstrations, I toured the grounds.
Cockspur Island, the island that is home to Ft. Pulaski, has a rich history. John Wesley, one of the most important historical figures in Methodism, landed on the island and preached there. There's a historical marker on the island to mark his landing. Seeing this makes me want to take my camera and go back to Ft. Frederica. Just outside the fort, there's some historical markers related to John Wesley and his brother, Charles. I'm not going to have time to visit these sights when I'm down that way next month. I don't if many people in this area understand Savannah's importance to the United Methodist Church.
I also hiked out towards the Cockspur Island lighthouse. It's about a ¾ mile hike from the fort parking lot to the lighthouse. It wore me out. About an hour after I got home, I had to nap. However, I know the hike was good for me.
If you want to see the photos, I uploaded them both on Flickr and PIXels. Both sites have the same photos.
