"Truth Is I Love You More Than I Wanted To"

"Gracie"

Today was sunny when I woke up. So, I decided to visit Bonaventure Cemetery. It's located on the Wilmington River in Thunderbolt. It's just about a 10 minute drive (traffic being light) drive from my home. Ever since last week's "Moon River" Thursday Threesome, I have been wanting to go over there.

This picture is the world famous Gracie Watson statue. The girl has a iron fence around her. She used to be free, but too many tourists would have to touch the statue. All that did would add body oils to the statue, leading to it's decay. *Frown* Also, because she's a beloved icon of the cemetery, local kids would try to vandalize her. *Frown* The fence was added to protect her from these threats. I didn't jump the fence. *Laughing* The spacing between the bars of the fence are wide enough that I could put my camera into the fence and take this shot. Also in my Savannah set is the stone about the statue from the grave site.

I also took photos of the graves of Conrad Aiken and Johnny Mercer. As I stumbled across Mercer's grave, a tour group was there at the grave. All I heard from the guide was that she referred to the Civil War as the War Between The States.

In addition to shots from the cemetery, I also took some scenic views of the Wilmington River. At one point, my car was on a small bluff just over the river.

The weather today is nice. With all the recent rains and cold air pushing down from Canada, it has been exceptionally cool in Savannah. As I was driving home, I was noticing that while Savannah can be humid, we do have mild winters and plenty of green space. It's full of oak trees that provide shade. My yard at my family's home is full of azalea bushes and trees. Savannah is a subtropical forest. If I stay in Savannah, I want a yard like ours. I don't want a prairie. I want a forest.
