Sorry my site was down most of the day. That was a problem out of my hands.
What I did today was important. Today was an informational meeting for my summer job. 4 IT guys and 1 IT gal will be working this summer to create a curriculum for Integrate Information Retrieval at Armstrong. The professor in charge of the project told us to read some things in our free time. He also parcelled out what part of the project we'll be doing. I will be focusing on search engines. Except for one guy working the project, I've been in class with these guys working the project. The professor told us that Armstrong might develop a Masters program in IT. If that doesn't come to fruition, we cane get some letters of recommendations for either work or other Masters programs in IT at other schools. Sounds exciting, doesn't it? ![]()
After today's meetings, I attended The Creative Coast's 2006 Tech Fest. I felt out of my league there, at first. Most of the presentations were by CS and Engineering students. As an IT student, I'm low on the totem pole. However, as the afternoon progressed, I felt a bit better about my skills. I'm not low on the totem pole. I just work in a different part of the whole computer field. My strengths are in the Internet and networking part of the field. ![]()
Still, I felt so overwhelmed. Will I know enough to get a job? Will I be able to adapt to a job? Yes, I'm scared about what I'll do after college.
I did get a chuckle as I was leaving Savannah State today. Chris saw me and told me I got points for attending today's event. I only showed up to get a feel of the IT field in the area. I asked him how many. He said I'll be getting 3. He also said points can roll over to next semester. Theoretically, I have enough points from this semester to do NOTHING in the fall.
However, I'll be doing events in the fall. It's called networking.![]()
