If people can see opera sung in Italian and be considered cultured, I would like to see Starmania one day. Starmania is a French musical written in 1978 by Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon. I was introduced to the songs of the musical by Céline Dion. Her Dion Chante Plamondon features a few songs from the musical: "Le Monde Est Stone," "Le Blues Du Businessman," "Un Garçon Pas Comme Les Autres (Ziggy)," and "Les Uns Contres Les Autres." My favorite of the songs is "Un Garçon Pas Comme Les Autres (Ziggy)," which is about a girl head over heels in love with a gay guy. Don't believe me? Watch the video! According to the Wiki, the musical is featured the themes of themes of "terrorism, totalitarianism, and an individual's right to decide his own destiny." In this day and age, it sounds like something I'd want to see.
I do have the English translated soundtrack. I need to listen to it. I just haven't had the chance. In addition to Céline singing "Ziggy" in English, the English soundtrack features Tom Jones, Cyndi Lauper, and Kim Carnes, to name a few. I'd like to see a production in English, too. However, I doubt that's going to happen for a while.
