Okay, I am registered for classes for the summer and fall. Here's what I'm taking:
Summer 2006:
INTRO TO COMP ETHICS/SECURITY - CSCI 2070
HONS TOP: ETH ISS IN WOM HEAL - HONS 2100
Fall 2006:
HISTORY OF FILM - FILM 3400 001
CLIENT/SERVICE SYSTEMS - ITEC 4770
HONORS CALCULUS I - MATH 1161H
UNIX & SECURE WEB DEVELOPMENT - CSCI 2201
It took me 10 minutes to talk to my advisor. It took me 5 minutes to register for 5 of these classes. It took me an hour to register for the UNIX class. Yes, it was me that discovered another computer flaw! How is it that I'm the one that finds them. First the Blogrolling disaster of 2003, and now this. Thankfully, this error didn't screw the whole school like the Blogrolling fiasco did all the Blogrolling users. This error just prevented me from registering for the UNIX class.
Here's the deal: The UNIX class requires a grade of C or better from CSCI 1301. Great. I have a B from that class. Well, the system that handles the registration for the school was not programmed to recognize 1301H being the same as 1301. What's the difference? The H marks that I took an Honors version of the 1301 course. The computer gives me an error saying that I did not complete the prerequisite for UNIX. I spent an hour running around campus trying to get this problem fixed. The registrars office, where I finally was able to get into the course, even had some trouble getting me into the course. Eventually, I got into the class. The ladies handling my case reported it to the guy in charge of the computer system. So, anyone else planning to take 2201 after 1301H won't have the problem I had. By the end of the day, I expect the whole IT department to know about my special case.
Why did I let someone talk me into the Honors program?
It's been such a hassle. Why am I an underachieving overachiever?
