The Politics Of Kissing And The Mathematics Of Love.
February 8, 2006

Amy Grant has a song known as "Politics Of Kissing." So what's the Mathematics Of Love?

As Valentine’s Day approaches, you may be wondering about a strategy for finding the spouse of your dreams. (Then again, you may consider advice on dating from a mathematician to be about as helpful as an ethics seminar conducted by Jack Abramoff.) In this talk we will discuss the problem of finding an optimal strategy for pairing men and women into stable marriages based on their preferences for the members of the opposite sex. In addition to offering at least one genuine piece of advice for marriage seekers, we will discuss why this problem might be of particular interest to pre-med, pre-law, and economics majors.
It was a colloquium speech given by my Calc professor. I attended, not in order to meet a mate, but in order to help satisfy my scholarship requirements. Dr. Brawner showed the logic behind finding mates. And guess what girls? In the worst case scenario, out of three guys, we end up with our third choice. *Frown* Women are always looking for the best guy. If they find a better one, they go for it. Guys luck out. They get first pick at the girls they want, provided the girl wants the man in question, first. Of couse, this was just a way to explain certain selection processes. I had a good laugh at the whole thing.

However, it does suck being alone. I hate having to dine out by myself. I end up doing that a lot, like today. I did have a chance to have lunch with a friend, but unfortunately, I had planned on the colloquium today. Maybe next time she's off, we'll get together for lunch. I ended up by myself for lunch after Astronomy class. It's depressing. I always feel as if my waitress is pitying me for being alone. I can't wait for the day I'll have someone to dine with me. That, and other things, too. *Oh Yeah!*

I wasn't alone all day. This morning, I had a interesting chat with an English major that comes to the IT lounge for it's quiet atmosphere. She told me to call her if I'm interested in going to church with her. *Smile* Maybe this Sunday.

I also went by the Sprint store to find out details about getting a new phone. Either I pay $50.00 for a replacement phone or lenghten the contract we have with Sprint and get $75.00 off my new phone. I'll stick with the $50.00 option. My phone is in my sister's name at the moment. It's not my place to change her contract.

Well, that's about it from me today. I've got S&D class in about an hour. That will be fun.*Rolling My Eyes*
