"Still I Here These Voices Telling Me To Not Give Up On You"
August 31, 2005

My fellow die-hard Richard Marx fans know that line is from his Paid Vacation song "One More Try." I've posted the lyrics in the extended entry. I had this song on repeat the whole time on my way back from school this evening. I love it. It has always been one of my favorite on this album. I love how he starts the song in a singing voice similar to a normal conversation. The way he ends the song, it's like he's pleading. Through out the course of the song, you can hear how the main character of the song becomes more and more sincere.

School was fine today. I really had no problem in Database doing SQL queries. There are only 14 people in the class. We were going over the lab assignment from Monday in class today. I was one of the more active participants in demonstrating queries. I also installed MS Access on my computer, so I can practice SQL queries at home. Maybe I've found my niché in the IT field? Who knows.

I only went to school today for classes. I just didn't have the energy to attend the 3 possible events I could attend today at noon. Instead, I got to work on this Networking assignment that's due tomorrow. I know I have procrastinated on it. I did the research this afternoon and need to get working on the essay part for it, today. I've got the introduction written. Now I just need to discuss and explain features offered by phone companies and why I'd chose one service over another. I guess I better get back to it, now.

There was nothing missing,
It was just a case of foolishness
Girl, I must’ve been crazy
Something I would just as soon forget
I can only say I’m sorry and
Leave it up to you to say the rest

If you want to go,
Girl I won’t stand in your way
But I’ll stand by you if you
Decide you want to stay
Baby, don’t you see
Doesn’t have to be forever or goodbye
All I’m asking for is one more try

I’m the one who hurt you,
Still I know the pain you’re going through
And even if you show forgiveness,
There may be too much damage to undo
I hear these voices telling me
Not to give up on you

If you want to go,
Girl I won’t stand in your way
But I’ll stand by you if you
Decide you want to stay
Baby, don’t you see
Doesn’t have to be forever or goodbye
All I’m asking for is one more try

My heart and soul are searching
Trying to find a way
To bring your love back to me

Still I hear these voices telling me
to not give up on you

If you want to go,
Girl I won’t stand in your way
But I’ll stand by you if you
Decide you want to stay
Baby, don’t you see
Doesn’t have to be forever or goodbye
All I’m asking for is one more try

Wow, I would have thought you'd think the opposite of One More Try. I figured you'd think like me- that the "narrator" of that song is a dog. LOL That's what I take from it anyway.

No, I don't think the narrator of the song is a dog. Sometimes, we love someone so much, we try to do right by them at all costs. Unfortunately, the things we feel and/or know are best for the person actually hurts the person. I take that's the back story in this song. The narrator did something that ended up hurting the girl, deeply. He's trying to apologize but knows that the relationship has been strained. He's trying to say sorry the best he can and let the girl know that something says to him "Don't give up."

That's just my perception of it. By the way, thanks for answering my request. I really wish I did have that soundtrack on CD. They have two copies on Amazon at the moment, but they are nearly $100.00! I don't think so!

Interesting take on the song. I always saw it as a cheating mate begging for forgiveness, and I have a strict "cheating=dog" policy. LOL!!!

Not a problem on the song. I'd love to have an original copy of the cd myself, but like you I'm not looking to pay $100 for it.

Cheating is wrong, that I'll agree with! As for the soundtrack, I'm glad I do have it on tape!
