All This Time I Thought I Was A Freak…
January 24, 2005

Turns out I'm not. I'm so happy, I could hug someone!

I'm going to drop my History class. I was waiting on the professor outside his office by sitting in the reflectory. I found a Time magazine article on "Grow Up? Not So Fast". It's about people my age, my generation, struggling to become adults. It was a very informative read. I'm just beaming to know I'm not alone in my quest and zest for life. Unfortunately, the article is archived, so you have to pay to read the online version but I will say it was worth my time reading it.

Now to go off and see if my soon-to-be-ex-history professor is in his office so I can drop his class.

I don't know, for some reason, that article totally rubs me the wrong way. The author's definition of "adulthood" is stuck in the 1950's and he (and the sociologists) have to make up some new term called the "twixters". Twenty-somethings just have a different lifestyle now than before, that's all. Society is always changing--so will they have to make up new terms every couple of years when there's another cultural shift? (And is it just me or is the term "twixter" probaby coined by the same people who made up "teeny bopper"?)

I don't know about who coined the term. It makes me think of candy, honestly.

I think the article is not so much for our generation but for our parents' generation to explain why we are the way we are.
