During History today, I was using my notes from History 1100 for our lecture on the Cold War under Truman. At one point, my professor couldn't think of "sphere of influence," so I said it for him. The whole class laughed at me just speaking up with it. A few minutes later, we were discussing the containment policy by George Kennan and I quoted the 1100 notes. Again, the class laughed. Irania spoke up and said something like "Just give her an A, a 100! She's too smart for this class!" and started asking why I was even in the class if I knew the information. My professor replied that I can take the class and don't pick on me since I help him. Irania said she wasn't picking on me. She was just expressing that I was too smart for that class.
I just let it slide and knew she didn't mean harm. I just told my professor I've gotten it before and I'll get it again in the future. I did take the class a little off subject when Noir Fierté asked a question about the Berlin Wall and I started discussing the wall and its features as I saw on a History Channel show. I think this discussion prompted Irania's remarks.
We didn't even discuss the Berlin Airlift of 1948.
Ethics was spent writing a paper and Swimming was spent testing (I only made an 80! Oh well!) and swimming. I'm thisclose to getting the breast stroke down. I have three more swimming classes for the summer. As for the 80, it's 40% of my grade but I've got perfect scores in the 20% in attitude and attendance. I don't know how I'll do in the last 40% of my grade but Swimming does not count towards my HOPE GPA. That's good. Besides, a B in Swimming is not the end of the world.
Or so I must convince myself

Shawn, do you have a HOPE scholarship? Can you give me a few details on the program? (I usually mention it to students in my classes, as an example of a State-level incentive program, when we are discussing incentives and disincentives as motivating factors in education - and they are always fascinated by the idea)
