Well, my brother is out of high school. I should be happy and I am, for him. Yet, at the same time I'm bitter. VERY BITTER at my high school that
ed me over. They really did. I was just as smart as all the kids that kissed their asses or had a magic personality they liked, yet none of my teachers cared for me. NOT A SINGLE ONE bothered to call my house whenever I had a long span of absences. No one! I missed school because I had trouble. I didn't feel wanted or needed. And I know I should let this go 7 years after the fact but it still stings to know I was NEVER wanted in high school. It STILL affect me to this day. I deserved some of the accolades yet never got them.
My parents keep telling me to aim for them in college. I do and I will. But if you ever wonder why I suffer from low esteem, this is a reason. Being treated like you are nothing only breeds people who feel like nothing.
As for all my teachers at Herschel V. Jenkins that may ever come across this, THANK YOU
for caring. It meant so much to me. Really, it did. It really meant a lot to know I don't matter in the scheme of life.
I'll post something more positive after I've slept this resentment off and I go to school. At the moment, I'm throwing me a pity party since no one else will throw me a party or care for me.
And if you are a teacher reading this and you notice a student having a problem, at least reach out to them. That reach just might mean the world to them. Something I sorely lacked in school and I wish I had.

I'm sorry you felt that way in school. I had teachers that were like that too. They have their little favorites and the rest of us were crap. I admit though, in high school I was the favorite of a few of my teachers.. It's just funny... They are in the business of teaching children to be smart adults... yet they can do the most damage to a child's mind...
Posted by: Dragon at June 2, 2004 4:40 PMThis is why I want to become a teacher and make sure all the kids get the attention they deserve. I know with the number of students they deal with, that its difficult to maintain a personal relationship with each one. That doesn't mean that they shouldn't put in the effort though. I had a few teachers from high school whose actions still affect me to this day, as well, both positive and negative. Sometimes I'm not sure if teachers realize the huge impact they have on the lives of their students.

And both of you are right. I doubt teachers realize there impacts until some of their students are adults.
