As the title suggests, I had smooth day at school. ![]()
Last night, I wasn’t in the mood, really, to read for today’s Civ. I class. However, I did and wrote a page comparing the Persian Royal Road system’s post stations to the rest areas we see today along Interstates and other limited access highways.
It’s ok if I bomb on the paper; I can make it up. However, it’s not ok if I bomb Friday’s test. I’ll have to study that in part tonight and tomorrow.
Today in English, we played in the computer lab. My professor showed us some sites she recommends for us work on our grammar skills. I was getting confused over comma splices and fused sentences. It has been a while since I had to know the difference between the two. I just remember when and where a comma is needed. I like to think my comma usage is correct.
One site was all about the Regents’ exam required by all students prior to finalizing 45 hours of class work. If you are ever in the mood to type a long blog entry and are stuck on what topic to write about, the sample of Regents’ topics might help. The Regents’ site also stresses about not being funny in the paper you write.
Scorers are told to “reward the successful and penalize the inept” when it comes to humor. I think that’s wrong. I can’t help it if they can not appreciate nor comprehend the humor I do.
Finally, for my classes of the day, in my computer class, we started sampling programming - on paper. We went over the steps to write a simple program that asks for a user’s name. As an exercise, we had to write a program asking a user for the radius of a circle and the program will give the answers for the circle’s circumference and area. I wrote my program correctly the first time.
Before I go, I just wanted to say last night, before going to bed, I was flipping the channels and came across CMT’s Crossroads. On it was Emmylou Harris with Dave Matthews. Dave was singing “Where Are You Going.” I’ve heard it plenty of times before on the radio and will sing along with the parts I know. However, last night I stopped and listened to a line in the song:
Are you looking for answers, to questions under the stars?and I just thought it was beautiful.
If along the way you are growing weary, you can rest with me until a brighter day
I need to go and take home my sister’s obnoxious friend.
Who am I kidding? Beth can be obnoxious, too. ![]()

I agree--sense of humor is a lot like flavors of ice cream. Some people will like chocolate and others vanilla, but that doesn't mean one of them is *wrong*.
On a tangential note, the prof for the class I'm TA-ing thought it was funny to compare RNA structure to Pamela Anderson riding on a snowboard. People laughed, but probably not for the reason he intended.
Posted by: sya at January 21, 2004 6:29 PMIf I could remember how RNA is structured, I'd probably find it funny. I can probably understand the other way it was funny.
Posted by: Shawn at January 21, 2004 8:10 PMAlso gotta remember not all people have a sense of humor so to speak... They never think anything is funny... How sad for them. Laughing is just one of the purest forms of getting high... :-)
That is a really pretty lyric in that song.
Trish, I hear you on the high factor! People will think I'm high at times while I'm out and I'm not. I'm just so giddy from having fun.
I should add that lyric to my quotes.
