Monday Mission 3.
November 17, 2003

Ok, now that the event known as Attack Of Laura's Blog (Visit Laura, by the way. She enjoys the visits. *Laughing*) is finally winding down and I am back to calm, I figured I would go back to my regular posting habits.

So, it's time for the Monday Mission:

1. I read an article that said the reason many people like hot and spicy food is because that pain actually causes them pleasure. Do personally find a connection between pleasure and pain? Yes. I remember when my finger was bruised a couple of years ago that after the first few days, I liked making it hurt. I know that's wrong but I wanted to see how much pain I could tolerate.

2. On the local NPR station their was a news item that about a recent study which said men who do housework get more sex. What do you think about that? Why would that be the case? I can't answer this question.

3. A friend and I were talking about the stigma attatched to divorce. He said that men can usually be divorced and not have much social backlash, but that women are often looked at as having failed in some way. The church especially, he said, tended to look down upon divorced women as if it were totally their fault and not the man's. Do you think there is a double-standard when it comes to men and women and the stigma of divorce? Yes. However, I guess I can answer this question better after I ever get married.

4. On that same topic, I just read an article (look on Google News) that said parents with daughters are more likely to divorce than parents with sons. Do you think there is any validity to this? Well, my parents have 3 daughters to 1 son and they aren't divorced.

5. Do you think the way a Father raises his daughter has an impact on the type of men she will eventually have relationships with? Oh, yes! My mother and Nancy kid that I'll never marry and neither will Nancy's daughter, Kim, because we're too busy looking for our fathers. Our fathers are great people and they have set a high standard.

6. Have you ever found your body craving some sort of food? Meat, chocolate, fruit and even water, the body tends to know what it needs. Do you get food cravings? Which are the most powerful? Sweets! I get swwet cravings a lot.

7. Do you have any type of skills you can "fall back on" if you needed to change careers suddenly? I wish I did but I don't. Hence, why I'm going to school.

BONUS: Ain't that a shame? Why yes, it is.

Q1 - I'm a total sissy when it comes to pain. I don't like spicy food because of that.

Q7 - Sometimes I wonder if I'm limiting myself by becoming so specialized. But then I remember that people with my kind of background have become anything from teachers to journal editors and patent lawyers and even to the ever nebulous consultant.

1. I read an article that said the reason many people like hot and spicy food is because that pain actually causes them pleasure. Do personally find a connection between pleasure and pain? I am going to NOT answer this on the grounds that someone under the age of 18 might be reading *giggle*

2. On the local NPR station their was a news item that about a recent study which said men who do housework get more sex. What do you think about that? Why would that be the case? Because the women aren't as tired from having to do it all and there for have more energy for sex. Not only that but it's like earning brownie points lol.

Oh yes. And especially those women who have children because 90% of the time they get custody. So every time someone sees a single mother, they wonder what SHE did to ruin her marriage. Most guys don't even admit they are divorced and really, unless he happened to have custody of children, no one would ever know they were.

4. On that same topic, I just read an article (look on Google News) that said parents with daughters are more likely to divorce than parents with sons. Do you think there is any validity to this? I don't know, maybe. My mother had 2 daughter when she got divorced the 1st time, and 4 daughters when she got divorced the second. My sister had 1 daughter when she divorced the first time and 2 daughters and a son when she divorced the second time. I think, if there is any validity to this at all, it has to do with the man not being able to handle having all those girls in the house or he thinks if he was with someone else, he could have a son. Hate to tell ya guys, but the sex of a child is decided by YOU!! Not the female!

5. Do you think the way a Father raises his daughter has an impact on the type of men she will eventually have relationships with? I don't know really. I guess in a way because they set the standard of what the daughter thinks a man should be. My sister married abusive assholes because she knew my father as one. I married a great loving affectionate guy because that's what I remembered of my father and my step father(Since I moved in with him at 13, he was more the source then my real father). I didn't know or remember that my father was a sadistic child molesting bastard.

6. Have you ever found your body craving some sort of food? Meat, chocolate, fruit and even water, the body tends to know what it needs. Do you get food cravings? Which are the most powerful? Ice cream. I also crave things like Chinese food, pizza, turkey, certain kinds of cereals, sea food... Just about anything and can't really decide which is the strongest. LOL

7. Do you have any type of skills you can "fall back on" if you needed to change careers suddenly? Well I don't even have a career to begin with! I was a fire fighter/Damage Controlman in the Navy so I could always do that. And I worked in the admin office for the Engineering department doing stuff there so I could do that. Been a mother for 6 1/2 years so could do day care(over my dead body. lol) but now that Travis is going to be on shore duty I am thinking of having a part time job while Adrianna is in school and then taking some business management classes in the evening. Gonna be strange since I haven't had a civilian job for almost 10 years!!

BONUS: Ain't that a shame? I know this is either a Fat's Domino or Chubby Checker song but for the life of me can't think of any other lyrics to it!!

So long as you aren't too specialize as to be the only one to do it, I think you'll be ok.

Posted by: Shawn at November 17, 2003 7:02 PM

Trish, I thought you wanted to be an EMT?

Posted by: Shawn at November 17, 2003 7:06 PM

I do but financially, they don't make that much and I am putting aside what I WANT for what my family NEEDS more or less. A degree in some kind of business management would be more beneficial in the long run so that's what I gotta do.

Posted by: Dragon at November 17, 2003 7:11 PM

That's true. I forget about business degrees since they aren't offered at my school.

Hey Shawn, did you see that someone posted about the hack on Metafilter? (http://www.metafilter.com/mefi/29636)

Posted by: sya at November 17, 2003 7:43 PM

Yes. Brian of the BKO Lounge alerted me of it. He's the one I went to first to spread the news of the glitch.

I would have posted to clear it up but I don't have a Metafliter account.

I'm spreading the word not so much for the fame but to clear up the fact that Laura didn't do this. It was just an accident.

Posted by: Shawn at November 17, 2003 7:51 PM

And according to the Blogrolling guy, you're "Mr. Shawn Allison."

Tim thought that was kind of funny. All I could say was, "Poor Shawn."

Seems a lot of people are mistaking me as a guy but if it clears up you didn't do it, that's ok by me.

Wow, when you said you had a bad day I thought you were saying it in jest.

I had no idea you were steeped in controversy!

Hope you are doing better today.
