Have you watched the Joe Schmo Show? I didn't until yesterday when Spike TV had a marathon yesterday.
It's a faux reality show where everyone knows it's fake except Matt, the Joe Schmo. The other housemates are really actors playing along with a script.
I found it quite interesting. Matt seemed to watch the Survivor in Australia. In a few episodes, he kept making references to Tina Wesson, the winner of that show. It was like that was his strategy guide to win "Lap Of Luxury," the fake reality show they are playing.
Matt seemed to be a great guy. He didn't want to get caught in the middle of any fights. He was hurt when a housemate he respected was voted out of the house. The cast and producers had to scramble as not to hurt Matt feelings and have him cry again. He gave up a prize he won after hurting another player in a game. He supported his friends when they had to eat gross stuff and then fought for them after refusing to eat dog crap.
I think the whole show says a lot about who we are as a society. It shows we can be nice, competitive, schemers, jerks, and really learn to care for people in a short amount of time. They mimicked show stunts and how stupid they shows can be. It also made me question watching the reality show genre at all.
I think since the World Series is over (Way to go Florida Marlins by the way), I will watch the big reveal episode Tuesday night. I have to see how it ends. How will Matt react to this big lie he's been living for a few days?

mathys has talked to me at length about this show... it seems he and hans discovered it at papaV's house this late summer, while they were "working"

I watched the first Temptation Island b/c my roomate watched it and the humor was in her discussions with her friend Dennis. I watched so I could keep the arguments going by siding with whichever side was beginning to give in. Other than that, I think they are ridiculous. Of course, I don't really watch any tv, so I guess I'm not one to judge. I was curious as to what the Joe Schmo's reaction would be to the whole ordeal. He sounds like a decent guy.

And yes, he does seem like a decent guy. After hearing his final speech as to why he should "win the $100,000.00," it really does make me wonder how he will take this.
