1. Chrystal said in last week's Monday Mission that the chore she dreaded most was having to "fold and put away clothes." What regular chore(s) do you dread the most? Don't make me do the dishes. ![]()
2. Have you ever tried any of the "tabbed" browsers like MyIE2, Safari or Mozilla Firebird? Do you like it better than a one-window browser? How come? I use Mozilla and love it. I don't have to clutter the bottom of my computer with 18 windows if I'm multitasking. It doesn't seem to take as much CPU power as 18 windows.
3. I was told last night that normal people don't spend as much time on the computer as I do. That if I'd devote that energy toward something else, anything else, I could have probably cured cancer by now. I don't think my time is wasted when I am on-line or otherwise working on the PC, but maybe it really is more time than so-called "normal' people. Do you ever get criticized for being on the computer too much? How much time do you spend on the PC and/or on-line? Is it too much time are or do they just not "get" us? Yes, I do. I'm trying to curb it. Really, I am. It's just hard to get off. You start reading about one thing and that leads to another interesting thing to read and before you know it, your 15 minutes has turned into an hour. I shouldn't be on this computer at this moment but be reading Chapter 17 or 18 for history. As soon as I finish this and watch All My Children, I will. ![]()
4. One of the phrases I notice every week when read in the job listings is "must be a highly motivated self-starter.." I have no idea what that means. To me it sounds like what they really want to say is "must be able to take a lot of crap and not complain." That could be why I don't get many second interviews. In your opinion, what is a "self-starter?" Are you a "self-starter?" I have no clue. I have no clue what employers want. Do they want me to beg and grovel? I don't think so. I don't know how to sell myself.
5. Let's take that thought one step further: Write a Job Ad that describes you perfectly (as you are now, not as your "ideal" self) as well as the ideal job you'd like to get paid for doing. Here I go:
Wanted: College age girl still going to school wants a job in which she can play with a computer and do her work. She believes in work first and play later. Will require Internet access, not so much for play but for being able to have information at the click of a mouse. She will NOT be spending a majority of her time browsing ABC catalogs and talking to her boyfriend. The job will need to be part time at the moment so she can attend school full time. After all, college is important.I think those are my basic needs.
I just got a call from a job I place a resume with Friday. It sounded like a good job but it had 3 weeks of training from 8 to 5. My class cuts into that time.
And attendance is required.
Still looking.
6. As you may know, I have (Adult)ADD in a bad way, severe even. Although I'd very much like to be rid of it, I don't take meds for it because they made me very irritable and very unpleasant to be around. Do you take medications on a regular basis, or ever attempted to? Have they caused any side effects? Is it worth enduring them for the benefit you receive from the medication? You just reminded me that I need to see if my school has a health care plan they promote. I need a health care plan for medications. I need an anti-depressant and I think Prozac's in generic form now.
7. Some things should just stay in the past, you know? I've found many memories are better as memories. When you try to re-live them they never seem to be able to live up to the memory. Maybe we glamorize them over time. Or maybe they were as good as we think, but something from "now" gets in the way and you just can't get past it. What moment from the past have you tried to re-live that has fallen short of the memory? My mother told me that any other Richard Marx concerts I went to wouldn't be as fun as my first one. Guess what, she was

1. To dread a chore, you must actually be doing it. We have a live-in housekeeper. I do nothing other than clean my room.
2. Huh?
3. Not a lot of time, really.
4. They're being redundant! Clearly they want a motivated person. Seriously...an UNmotivated person never initiates ideas, projects, etc(which is basically what they mean by "self-starter"
5. Police Officer
Salary: $35,386-$52,962/year plus benefits
Position Information: This is a full time position for a patrol officer. The police profession is a challenging and rewarding one. Police professionalism is based on community service and dedication to fair and honest enforcement of the laws. This specialized work, with and for the people of Minneapolis, comprises an extraordinary range of opportunities and responsibilities.
(okay so I didn't write it but I just biked 6 miles on top of practice. gimme a break!
)
6. I have ADHD! I was on Ritalin for a while but it's banned by the IAAF(International Amateur Athletics Federation) and USATF. Besides, I really don't need it that much as it isn't as bad as it used to be. I'm very focused and attentive on the track. Sprinting is my Ritalin.
Come to think of it, I don't take anything but naproxen(as that is NOT a banned substance), aside from my Levoxyl for hypothyroidism.
7. Yes, definitely. For me personally, I often wonder if I ever see a certain someone again, will things be as amazing as they used to be? Or will "now" get in the way of "then"? The memories I have, I almost think nothing could live up to but then again, it could be even better. Who knows? I've certainly tried to find what I had with that person then with other people now but THEY fall short!
Better left as a memory I guess!
Q3: There are actually "normal" people around? I didn't think anyone was normal. And my computer is pretty mobile--we're almost as close as those people with cellphones permanently attached to their ears.
Q7: I never try to relive memories. It's like delibrately trying to put yourself through a Star Trek infinite time loop.
Posted by: sya at September 15, 2003 5:51 PMMisbah, tabbed browsing is the way to go! I've heard there are a few IE based tabbed browsers. You should check them out. Make your brother install one.
Yeah, Sya, what is "normal?" Maybe we're the normal ones and those that don't enjoy the Internet are not.
As for time loops, any episode featuring one completely baffles me. I can't keep up until I've seen it about a few times. I still don't get the Tasha Yar's daughter loop!
Posted by: Shawn at September 15, 2003 6:11 PMSpeaking of laundry... UGH!! Damn school clothes need washed or I would be putting this off till tomorrow too.. LOL
