Last Saturday, I remarked that I miss our C-Band satellite dish. I remember another reason I miss it. I was watching E! during a Atlanta Braves commercial break when it hit me. It was a segment on Vanessa Williams resigning as Miss America. And it reminded me again of the dish.
On our dish, we could watch some state televised pageants. My mother, sisters, and I watched at least the Miss Texas USA pageant (two years in a row!) and the Miss Ohio pageant (for the Miss America system). Pageants were a family thing for us and we enjoyed watching them. We would record them on the VCR and then watch them with some of our friends we met from the dancing/pageant world. We'd watch the national pageants, too, on the live feed instead of the affliate with commercials. With the live feed, we could hear the technitions and girls backstage talk and relax before going back on air. That was so much better than commericals for hair coloring.
I miss that dish.

Good thing about digital cable is we don't have to buy anything special but the programming. I think for the season football ticket it's like $99. I can't remember and they haven't started advertising it yet. I WANT IT!! But I will probably have to let it go and not get it.. That's just one more bill we really don't need... I miss the big paychecks from when Travis was out to sea!! But I DO prefer having him back here with me over the extra money... Oye.. It's quite obvious I didn't marry "rich" or for money!!
Same with my mother and father.
Actually, with the C-Band, all we need to do is fix it. We really don't need any more equipment to watch all the free things we can with it. My father gets his football on his DirecTV dish that he has for his trailer.
