"The Promise Of A
May 13, 2003

I don't know what it is but I can't take Spellbound out of my CD player.

I was 12 when it was released and "Rush Rush" was the first single off that album. I lived on Ft. Bragg. There were two groups of kids in my area of the neighborhood. The Castle Dr. kids and the Spear Dr. kids. I lived on Spear. We were friends but you knew we each had our own little clique. Usually both groups would hang together at the little playground between Spear and Castle many days. Other days, we would stay on our own street.

The Castle kids created a dance for "Rush Rush" and practiced it a lot in front of us, the Spear kids. One of the dance moves for this song was this forward thrusting motion with their fists. It was always at the line "So deep, so deep inside."

My mother saw that dance move and was disgusted at it. We Spear kids were performing it at our Spear Dr. hangout, my family's picnic table. My mother looked out side and saw the performance. At age 12, it was an innocent dance move. Now, at age 24, I understand why my mother was so disgusted at it. *Blushing*

To me, Spellbound is part of a soundtrack of a point in my life when I went from a little girl to a teenager! *Laughing* Most of the memories I associate with it are innocent.

Haha....ah, our innocent days when we don't know what things mean. I'd have to look back on that with laughter.

The sad thing is that 12 year olds today would definitely understand the manuver....they are so much more worldly now.

Yes, it's sad that 12-year-olds of today would understand why my mother was disgusted and they would probably laugh at it.
