It's Another Monday!
April 28, 2003

Monday Mission:

1. Postmodernism (a popular philosophy of the current day) indicates that there are as many "truths" as there are people; nothing is absolute (however, by its very nature, even the word 'Postmodernism" resists definition). For yourself, what truths are absolute? Are there any absolute truths in the Universe? Maybe the only truth there is 1+1=2? I don't know. This question is just to philosophical for me today. *Sigh* I can't really answer it at this point.

2. Do you believe that you are still "teachable?" If I wasn't, I wouldn't be in school at the moment.

3. To do something well, in most situations, requires study and practice. What's the most recent thing that you have done well as a result of study and practice. Going back to school to fix my GPA. It's rising. *Smile* I think designing my site takes practice. I really don't like uploading a trick until I get it working on my hard drive and understand it. Oh, and getting my Driver's License took LOTS of practice when to came to parallel parking.

4. If you had the time/money, what do you want to learn how to do more than anything? Besides play the guitar and get my college degree? Hmm…I don't know, really.

5. Those around us may often try to intervene, but ultimately each individual is responsible for the choices they make in life. Tell me about a recent situation where you had a decision to make, and those around you tried to influence or direct you. Were they successful? Was that "help" welcomed? Let's not go there, ok? I find, usually, that "help" in those situations by non-family members, really isn't "help" at all.

6. Things are much easier to accept when they are given by invitation rather than being forced upon us. When was the last time you rejected something because it was forced on you? How did it happen? Did you hold a grudge about it? Was it ever resolved? Nope, not going to answer this one. Best to keep my mouth shut.

7. Are you the sort of person who questions everything, or are you able to accept things without someone providing you tangible proof? It depends one what it is. At the moment, I'm questioning how this missing girl's, Ashleigh Moore, case is being handled by the police AND the media. I think the police bungled it up waiting SEVERAL days before issuing an Amber Alert on the child. I think the media blew off a good story in explaining Levi's Call to the general public. I think the citizens of my area need to understand Levi's Call. I think the area should question how the police are operating.

However, all that's being reported is how the police is investigating, not what they could/should/would have done.

BONUS: Ooo baby, do you know what that's worth? No, I don't. And I don't know this song.

*If there are as many truths as there are people, then..."the truth is out there". I believe in one truth: the only thing that's constant is change.

2. Do you believe that you are still "teachable?"
*Of course! As long as I'm living, I'm learning. You should get my teammate Jack to answer this. He dispenses wisdom in some way or other at every practice. I've taken to calling those moments "Deep Thoughts with Jack" (I'd say Handley but that's not his last name!)

3. To do something well, in most situations, requires study and practice. What's the most recent thing that you have done well as a result of study and practice?
*Those years of distance running definitely derailed me from practicing my sprinting technique. My ex coach tried to make me believe that it would take years to get that back(though not surprisingly, it was him who had me running all that mileage!). Anyhow, I've been practicing and practicing and my new coach says of course that it will take practice...but not "years". In two weeks, I'll see a major difference and I'll get my form back. After all, I've already got it in me. I just need to keep at it. He's already said in one month, I've made quite some strides. This is great news!

4. If you had the time/money, what do you want to learn how to do more than anything?
*I'm strapped for cash but I'd like to take up fencing again just for fun, not competition. I started to in college(okay, actually that was just one beginners course) and I really loved it. I'd have continued with it if I hadn't suffered that hit and run.

5. Those around us may often try to intervene, but ultimately each individual is responsible for the choices they make in life. Tell me about a recent situation where you had a decision to make, and those around you tried to influence or direct you. Were they successful? Was that "help" welcomed?
*Quitting my former team and cutting ties with my ex coach. Ask anyone who's been coached by someone for years, how hard it is to break away. Add to that the fact that my coach was like a father figure to me, I felt like I was losing something twice. He tried to talk me into staying but my mind and my heart just knew. I wasn't getting where I knew I could be. I just wasn't going to waste any more time. Lo and behold, nearly a week after breaking ties, I met my new coach. Good things happen with initiative and a little risk, for sure!

6. Things are much easier to accept when they are given by invitation rather than being forced upon us. When was the last time you rejected something because it was forced on you? How did it happen? Did you hold a grudge about it? Was it ever resolved?
*No one ever forces anything on me.

7. Are you the sort of person who questions everything, or are you able to accept things without someone providing you tangible proof?
*Depends on the circumstance, I suppose.

BONUS: Ooo baby, do you know what that's worth?
*Ooo baby, take me to the pawn shop and I'll find out!
