I Detest Pre-Empted Programming!
November 30, 2002

All week, NBC was advertising that It's A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie would come on last night. Ok, so I'll be 24 in a week. But still, I can have some childlike qualities in me. One is wanting to watch this Muppet movie. Not only that, but Nicki was working and we were going to record it for her. She's a Muppet fan, too. So 8PM rolls around and there is no Muppet movie! WHAT!? Ok, maybe I imagined the ads. I apologize to my family about the Muppet mishap and then, I turned on the History Channel and watched a program on Ronald Reagan.

After learning about Reagan's childhood, I decided I was certain that the ads on NBC meant the Muppet movie was on tonight, being I'm talking about yesterday. But no, on NBC was a quality movie call No Place Like Home, with one of the great thespians of our time, Judge Reinhold. *Rolling My Eyes* Then I bring up the NBC website and it says It's A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie - Friday, November 29th 8/7pm. I check the clock on my computer. It says "Friday, November 29, 2002."

OK, THAT'S IT! I'm miffed. Muppets should be on my screen and instead, we have Judge Reinhold and Adrienne Barbeau dealing with aliens. So I whip up the WSAV.com website, the local NBC affliate for Savannah. I was going to call the station. I got the phone number of their main line to inquire as to why there is no Muppet movie. It was busy for five minutes before I got a recording giving their office hours I couldn't hear too well on my cell phone. I guess with the busy signal, there were others wanting to watch this Muppet movie. *Laughing* So, I ended up sending a polite e-mail asking what's the deal with the missing Muppets.

The sad thing is, this isn't the first time our local stations have aired something other than what the networks advertised. Our local CBS affliate, WTOC wouldn't air Without Warning, a movie about metoers hitting the earth, eight years ago. They aired some Eddie Murphy movie that was 11 years old! I don't like the fact someone in a suit at the TV station is deciding what I can and can't watch. Isn't that my choice, not theirs?

I hope I'll hear back from WSAV on Monday as to what happened to the Muppets.

Finally, the math tip of the day:
Continuous Interest Compounding Formula:
A=Pert, where P in the amount you originally invested, r is the interest, and t is the amount of time the money has been investing. e is a constant number.
