HumpDay Hump

Act IV Scene III: *We are chatting on the phone before I have to head to get the kidlets from school. Husband is out of town......again! I need some company :o)*
Quiet on the set!! Roll tape..... and....ACTION!!

Christy: When I was a kid, we played so many fun games with the other kids in the neighborhood. We played "kick the can", "hide n' go seek", "Red Rover", "freeze tag" and many many others. Do you remember any of the games you used to play as a kid? What were they?
You: We just did only role playing when I lived in Augusta since it was a busy street and few kids where I lived but my time at Bragg, we played many games. Hide And Go Seek, a game similar to H'n'G but with ghosts and you played at night, kickball. One of the neighborhood kids, Jason, his parents would play along with the neighborhood kids. They had a game similar to horseshoes. I remember it as if it was yesterday. It was July 3, 1989. One of our first days at Ft. Bragg. Nicki and I were watching Jason's family and their friends play the horseshoe game from Nicki's bedroom. We longed to play along but didn't know anyone in the neighborhood except. Jason's mother yelled up to us "You girls want to play?' knowing we were the "New Kids On The Block." We ran downstairs and played with them until nightfall. Aah, I miss those sweet, innocent times before the Gulf War.

Christy: Things have changed so much. Kids these days aren't safe to roam the neighborhood as we used to. We would go everywhere on our bikes or walking. No place was off limits really as long as mom knew where we were going and knew the family. Could you wander all over as a child? Where was your favorite place to "hang"?
You: I wasn't allowed to wander all around the block. Just the courtyard our quarters was located, the adjacent playground to our courtyard, the back yard, the front yard of the Nelson's, and the courtyard to our right. All the places were within yelling distance for my mother. Those areas were all we needed for fun.

Christy: I found an awesome site last week while looking for a link to Penny Racers. It is YesterdayLand.com. On there I found so many toys I used to play with. Some I remembered and some I had forgotten about like the awesome Fisher Price Little People barn that "Moo'd" when you opened the barn doors and Monchichi's! Remember any favorite toys you used to play with? Are they still hanging around somewhere?
You: "My Little Pony!" They are still in this house, somewhere. *Smile* Also had "Jem," the ageless "Barbie," "Hot Wheels," and other '80's fad toys.

Christy: Also on that site were links to old television shows! Does anyone out there remember "The New Shmoo" or "Electra Woman and Dyna Girl"? Too old for you, you say? Well what about "The California Raisins Show" or "Captain CAAAAAAAAAVEMAAAAAAAAAN"?
You: I remember those cartoons - "The California Raisins" and "Captain Caveman!" I loved "She-Ra!" (oh, another toy I had!) and "My Little Pony" until the snob Ponies of Paradise Estates took over.

Christy: Arcade games back then were so basic but rocked! I was queen at Centipede! I used to play it at the Super Scooper Ice Cream Parlor (did your town have one of those?). Do you remember when Dragon's Lair came out on arcade?? I was psyched but sucked royally at it. I have hardly any hand/eye coordination. Do you like arcade games?
You: I'm more of a home video game player. Last year, I ordered Atari 2600 Classics. Loved those games as I 9 year old. I developed the thumb problem so I had to quit playing and yeah, our Atari burned out on us, too.

Christy: I started my exercise regime today, so no fast food for me! Want to head to Ruby Tuesdays for an awesome salad?

You: Thanks but no th

it's humpday but i don't see no humpin' goin' on for me... something is wrong with this picture.

1. Games I played as a child... I wasn't allowed to play anything at all. I'm serious. But my mother risked her life to sneak me outside for some playtime(maybe 1/2 hr a week!!) when my father wasn't home. I would pretend I was little orphan Annie and my friends in the neighborhood were the other orphans and we'd have new adventures. My mom sewed me a dress just like hers and I had the patent leather shoes too. I still love that movie for what it meant to me. I also loved...baseball!! All baseball all the time! I was also a first violinist when I was 7 so I took that seriously.

2. My favorite place to hang(and still is) was the bathroom. When my father was still at school and I was lucky enough to get maybe 5 minutes of solitary playtime, I'd run into the bathroom and sing my heart out and pretend I was on stage instead of in that hell house.

3. I had a toy store. Yes, every toy that was on the market, I had. Every single one! But I wasn't allowed to play with them. How twisted was that? However, later in life(I'm talking 16 years old), I experienced a tiny taste of childhood and relished in playing with Legos. Again, we had every single set so we had an entire city, including "the projects" LOL . I also loooooved the Ninja Turtles. We(brother and I) had every single collector's toy and accessory for TMNT. I am sure the Legos and TMNT collection are hiding somewhere in our garage.

4. I didn't care for TV. I remember shows that I never watched. I do have An American Tail committed to memory. I loved that movie! Still do.

5. I was 11 when we first got our Nintendo system. I liked that. But I still never played video games very often. I much preferred to be outside, running or inside practicing on my violin.

6. A salad? Sounds great! ;)

Salad.. yum.. But give me bacon bits, croutons and 1,000 island dressing baby!! LMAO Not so healthy after adding all that!

I LOVED Captain Caveman!! And the smurfs, care bears, snorkles, Fragile rock...

Anyone remember Hungry Hungry Hippos?? I loved that game! Oh and don't forget operation! BUZZ!! DANG IT! LOL

Ah... the 80's.. such better, simpler times...

Thanks for the name, Krisit! I got that quote in a e-mail and figured since I don't know who really said it, just attributed as I did.

Christy - damn that Paradise Estate!

Misbah - not allowed to play with toys? Sounds like my neighbors from Ft. Bragg! Were the toys simplly status symbols only? Legos, I had them, too, and love them. Still do to this day.

Trish - I once swallowed a marble from Hungry Hungry Hippos when I was 4 so that toy can be traumatic for me.
