Richard Marx
Grand Opera House
Macon, GA
January 19, 2002

Ok the Macon show was GREAT! WONDERFUL! What more can I say to describe it!

It was raining in Macon about 5. The girls I was with were crazy! Christina, a friend that tagged along, decided to brace the rain and wait under the awning for the box office/lobby to open. So my sister, Nicki, and I joined her. One of the young men handling the box office took pitty on us and let us in the lobby. Cool! Why I share this? Because at this time, Richard was performing sound check. We heard him sing and blow some lines. I called a few people on my cell phone and few people called me so I could share the sounds I heard.

So we hung out in the lobby for two hours just listening and soaking up what our senses could detect. I ran into a couple of Repeat Offenders and talked with them.

Finally at 7, they let us into the theater. Small little venue. Even smaller than the small Johnny Mercer theater we have here in Savannah. The crew of the sponsoring radio station came on that stage and spoke to us about the Childrens' Miracle Network. After that, a blonde girl opened the event with a beautiful song.

And now it's time for our wonderful Richard! I was able to con my way into a 4th row left seat. Not a bad choice! Richard came out in black slacks and that silver velvet shirt. His band included Bruce, Bruce Aktinson, Herman, Gene Miller, and I didn't catch the name of the keyboardist.

Let me type the set list:

Richard was funny as usual! The audience had a great time. We were all cracking up. There weren't many people dancing this time around like I've seen at other shows but they were into it.

"High" - I bet you are wondering about this one. It's a new song he wrote a few days ago and was gracious enough to share with us. It's wonderful. Let's hope it makes the next album, if there is one. Don't need it to be another "The Leading Man."

Now this was the only downpoint of the show. The radio station crew made it sound like the only way we'll probaby ever get to see Richard again is a fund raising event.

Lynne - It was so nice to meet you and your little girl. I hope this concert was all you had it hyped up to be and more! And I hope your little girl had a great time, too. Wasn't it nice to see Richard in our neck of the woods?

Jane - great seeing you again. Must get Richard to come to the South more often!

Eric - I don't know if you'll be reading this but it was nice meeting you, too. I hope the trip back home was safe for you.

One more thing before I go. Can I just express even though I spent 6 hours on the road yesterday for this event, it was wonderful to be able to see Richard and then sleep in my own bed. My next objective it to knock out the 6 hours of travel!
