I saw this story on Fark yesterday: Former Beaverton church members sued over online comments. Basically, a family went to a church. Eventually, the family felt as if the church spiritually broke their spirit and decided to leave. The mother posted a review of the church and how she felt it broke their spirit. She also has a blog. Well, now she’s being sued by the church.

This story has brought me to question how we treat others about their faith (or lack of it). Why do we get so hateful about people being of different faiths? Why do we get so hateful towards the people of the same faith because they follow it differently? Why do we shun those that we consider disbelievers? Why must we shame others?

Sadly, no true answers can be found to my questions.

And one last thing, since it it Mother’s Day as I type this, I hope all the mothers I know had a good one. You must forgive me if I didn’t want to celebrate it and treated it like another day.

I am not a domestic goddess. I’ll admit that. But today, I decided to try the Southern Biscuits by Alton Brown. So how did I do?

Well, following the recipe above, I did pre-heat the over to 450°:

Then I put the ingredients in the bowl, except for the buttermilk:

The next step was to mix it up into a crumble. I think this is what he meant:

Then, I poured into the mix the buttermilk and then mixed it into dough:

And then, once mixed, I had to just do drop biscuits. My kitchen in my apartment is too tiny to do any cooking. So, here they are in drop form:

I placed them into the oven and cooked them:

So how did they come out? I’ll let you see:

I had one already. It was OK. For me anything I cook just doesn’t seem as tasty as when other people cook it. I follow directions, but still nothing taste good. Later tonight, I am going to experiment with baked chicken and make it based on different ways my mother cooked chicken. We’ll see how that goes.

I stopped by the mall today to pick up my new glasses. I was wearing a shirt I’m not particularly fond of, but it was clean. I decided to get a new shirt. I browsed a few stores, but couldn’t find something cute in my size. I stopped into Sears to look around. I found a cute shirt in Sears in my size, but even that cute shirt could not remove my disgust for the monsters on the rack posted above.

What the hell are those things? Are the bowling shirts? And why are they so ugly?

The sad thing is many stores have a women’s section has to ugliest pieces of crap on sale. I don’t know if it’s because some of the cute styles are thought to make larger women seem larger or what. Are they trying to shame women into losing weight by offering only ugly crap?

I don’t know about you, but I doubt women size 2 would like to be offered those same shirts above. Size 2 people would be disgusted. And I doubt that shirt would sell in 5-7-9. They are ugly no matter the size. And yet, bigger chicks are suppose to embrace that crap?

One of the apps I have for my iPhone is the Hipstamatic Disposable camera app. The above photo was taken with the app, using the D-Lite camera.

The fun in this app is that you pick a camera, which is really just a pre-defined set of filters that applies processing to a photo. Then, after picking a camera, you share it with a friend and they take shots, too. However, one you take a shot, you don’t see your picture instantly. You must wait until all the shots on the camera have been taken before the pictures are reveled to all. It’s akin to using a real disposable, taking a few shots and then passing on the rest to a friend.

I just wish I had more friends that used the app. However, I also fear getting a friend that turns it into a type of Chat Roulette.

My only complaint about it is that you can’t upload your photos to Flickr. To upload it to Flickr, I lose all metadata for the file once I save a shot to my camera roll. Also, and the Hipstamatic app does this, too, is that if you take a shot, it doesn’t save the original shot your camera roll in addition to the processed shot. I want the processed shot, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes it doesn’t turn out like I like. I wish I had the original shot in order to do processing in a different application.

For the last 2 weekends, I went home. And boy did it feel good. I spent some time with my sister helping her with wedding plans. I actually hung out in person with some friends. I enjoyed the nice weather. I walked up the Tybee Lighthouse. Could have done without the mosquitoes.

I did see The Hunger Games. I went to the movie with Gennie, a/k/a Dizzy Girl. It had been a while since I last saw her and our schedules finally matched up.We spent about an hour after the movie just standing in the parking lot talking.

And there are more people I want to see that a weekend in Savannah does not give me enough time.

Part of me is wondering if I should just give up on this domain. Other than hosting my mother’s website, I don’t do much. I don’t really blog anymore. I doubt anyone would miss my mother’s site. I keep it up as a tribute to her. But I know I don’t need a site to keep her memories alive.

FYI, it is hard to write a blog entry with a UBS cat placing his head on my 10-key enter button. Yes, my laptop has a 10-key section! I love 10-key.

Not much else is going on with me. And how are you?

I remember watching this performance as a child. My mother feared MTV would corrupt us, so she forbade us from watching it.

But one day, in 1986, she was channel surfing. My sister, Nicki, and I were in the living room. My brother, Matthew, was a baby. Beth wasn’t even born. And as my mother channel surfed, she came across channel 36 and stopped. On the TV was an episode of The Monkees.

We were quite shocked as she stopped on MTV. And then she started explaining that she loved the show as a pre-teen. Micky was her favorite. She had 4 of their albums, several singles, and even had the Davy Jones solo album released prior to the development of the show. And she pulled them out for us. She then explained that if The Monkees were ever on MTV and we wanted to watch them, it was OK. They were the exception.

Little did she know Monkeemania Part II was just beginning.

One of the local stations in Augusta started airing The Monkees in response to the popularity on MTV. Nickelodeon started airing episodes, too. And after school, Nicki and I would watch a lot of The Monkees. And when we weren’t watching them, we were listening to my mother’s records.

Of course, for us youngsters, we loved Davy. Nicki loved him so much, she took possession of the solo record. I got it in my head one day to rename my navy blue crayon Davy blue.

And when the Monkees were on TV, my mother let us watch them. Even the MTV Video Awards.

Sadly, we didn’t have much money when I was a kid, so when the Monkees came to Augusta, we weren’t able to go see them live. But I do recall my dad, upon us hearing Davy would be at the mall, took us to the mall in a failed attempt to find him. I believe he was signing a book at the mall. And when he was on the local mid-day show at that time, it was the biggest news in town.

So, yes, my heart quite hurt when I heard he died earlier this week.

“I’m alive”

Let’s see how you figure out that reference. I should pull out that movie and watch it.

I am okay. I’ve been taking things easy so far in 2012. Now that my Project 365 is completed, I have taking photos when I’ve been in the mood. If I’m not in the mood, I don’t take one. Sadly, I’m in the mood today, but the weather is poor and I don’t want to leave my place. At the moment, nothing here is photo worthy except the animals.

This weekend, I have been watching 1980 flicks. Friday night I watched 9 to 5. As a little kid, it was funny but I never knew exactly what I was laughing at. Now that I am an adult and have worked in the office environment, I can laugh at even the little things. Thankfully, my office life has never been that dreadful. I actually like my office environment. This morning, I watched How to Beat the High Co$t of Living. Again, a movie I saw as a kid but the only thing I remember from it is that is starred Jane Curtain and Susan St. James, who were “Kate and Allie” together. I decided to try it out. It was OK.

Other than that, not much else.

I thought I would do a visual blog post.

Just next door to my apartment complex is the Heirloom Market BBQ joint. For food snobs in Atlanta, this is one of the best joints to visit. But, I don’t consider myself to be one.

I must recommend it.

Heirloom serves BBQ, but it’s got a Korean kick to the food. Case in point, the smoked chicken wings I had the other night:

They are drizzled in a special sauce for them. They had a kick. They had a bite. But after all, they were nice. And if doesn’t satisfy you, you can get a pulled chicken sandwich:

This is usually when I’m not daring. The seasoning on the chicken is American BBQ meets Korean flavoring.

And if that doesn’t tempt you, or you are just hardcore into basic American stuff, my I suggest the hamburger:

The last time I had a burger like that, my mother made it.

I tell you when it comes time to move out of my apartment complex, I will miss Heirloom. There is so much more there I want to try. And after eating there, I get just enough food and don’t feel ravenous after eating a meal. I can’t stand completing a meal and still feeling hungry.

I have to get this off my chest. I read a joke on Twitter today by someone I follow. I didn’t think it was funny. In fact, I thought it was just plain rude. I understand the point the joke was trying to make, but how it was worded just seemed so spiteful.

As I’ve gotten older, spiteful and pettiness just depresses me. It amazes me how many people that are of an adult age are still young, stupid, and immature. You’d think they know better, but don’t.

Maybe it’s a good thing I don’t have kids. I wouldn’t want them to be exposed to such people. And sadly, I’m cynical because of such exposure.
